A Thai man in the Isaan province of Buriram is facing a backlash after faking drug addiction and posting a video of his staged rampage on TikTok in search of online attention.

A Facebook page, Esor News 3, shared a video of a drug-addicted Thai man yesterday, May 29, with a caption read, “It will be better if you consume more rice than drugs. I feel sorry for his parents, even the chicken in the coop.”

The video showed the shirtless man hitting many objects with a wooden stick and kicking a chicken coop while shouting expletives at the person filming.

Thai netizens flooded the comments section with complaints and calls for the government to take the drug problem more seriously.

The viral video prompted police officers to raid the man’s home in the Lam Prai Mart district in Buriram province. The man, later identified as 25 year old Tai, admitted that the situation in the video was fake.

Tai confessed in an interview with Channel 7 that he had faked the situation for content on his TikTok account, insisting that no objects were damaged and no animals were harmed.

Tai stated that despite posting numerous videos on his TikTok account, he received minimal feedback from netizens. Consequently, he decided to create a video in hopes of garnering attention to his account.

Expressing his dismay, Tai revealed that his video depicting a staged rampage received over 11 million views and garnered numerous comments. However, only two netizens offered sympathy.

Tai proceeded to recount that two police officers visited his home the day after he posted the video. He clarified to them his intentions, explaining that he aimed to attract followers to share the story of his younger brother, who was fatally shot four years ago, with the case still unresolved.

Denying any involvement with drugs or alcohol, Tai underwent a drug test, which confirmed his claims. Although the police did not press charges, they cautioned him against repeating such actions.
