phishing warning from antivirus

Featured Replies

I normally do internet banking with my PC but recently when I try to register with my German bank account my antivirus program blocks the connection "because it was infected with URL : phishing" However I can connect using my smart phone, no problem. Any advice?

The phone and PC use different ways to connect to your bank.

The problem seems to be your PC. Check for malware (viruses).

If your installed malware program does not find any, try another malware program, i.e. booting the PC from a CD or DVD with such a program.

This is a good one: https://www.heise.de/download/product/desinfect-71642

I loaded spybot (free) and did a scan, spybot detected nothing as did my AVG (free) antivirus program. I started thinking cynically, every half an hour I was getting notices from AVG to upgrade, ie. pay, this has gone on for days, so now having spybot in place I uninstalled AVG and tried reaching my bank with my PC again, it worked, spybot didn't detect any phishing attempt. I now rather think there was none and that this was a ruse by AVG to get me to upgrade.

As far as I remember SpyBot looks for spyware only. You should have a decent anti malware (virus) program running all the time.

Yes, I installed 'Avast' did a screening for virus and malware (nothing showed up) and reached my bank ok but when I used Avast secure browsing they gave a phishing warning even though the URL address shows the 'lock' symbol. I entered the site, needs a QR code using tanjack and my bank card (that wasn't prevented) and checked my account, everything was ok, nothing suspicious going on.

Avast asks to report any false warnings which I did and they will then check the URL so it would seem false positives do happen. I informed my bank just in case there is phishing going on in the online banking site but if so the bank would already know by now.
