On June 3rd, 2024, Thai highway police were tipped off about a large group of illegal immigrants being transported by coach from Chiang Rai to Bangkok. After receiving this anonymous tip at 11 PM, the police, along with other authorities, launched a strategic response.

Officers and officials from Phrae immigration as well as related bodies took positions at pivotal points along Yantrakitkoson Road, which runs through the Song District, Rong Kwang District and Mueang Phrae District.

They identified three suspicious coaches run by a private tour bus company that operates on the Mae Sai-Bangkok route. On boarding these coaches in Mueang Phrae, police found 85 Burmese nationals who, lacking legal documents, had illegally entered Thailand.

During similar policing efforts in Uttaradit, the authorities captured an additional 20 people in similar situations. The total number of undocumented Burmese nationals apprehended surpassed 105.

The police reported that bus drivers, whose identities remain unknown, admitted picking up the immigrants from different areas including the Mae Sai bus station and Phayao University, all headed for Bangkok.

After thorough examination of the drivers, immigrants and other passengers, the police escorted them to local police stations to undertake legal procedures and start extradition processes.

And the poor refugees will be sent back to the meat grinder.

And return on further transport tomorrow after the 'price' has been renegotiated.

Thailand cannot do without its migrant labour force - what we see here is a repeated cycle of cat and mouse where operations exists in a 'grey area' of vagueness between what is permitted, what isn't permitted, what is tolerated, what is needed and what any individual or group can get away with at any given time within a fluid political landscape.

Migrant laborer are bussed in... Some are caught and sent back - this looks good for the police.

- xx illegal Immigrants caught this month (picture the PCV poster and lots of pointing)....

- Meanwhile xx bus loads of Migrant Labourers are bussed to various centres, for factories, construction sites etc and get to work (cheap labor).

- Sometimes these factories are raided and have to pay a fine, or through someone 'connected' pay a reduced fine for the BiB to look the other way...

- OR, the ilegal Immigrants (Migrant Labourers) are bussed back across the border...  only to return again days or weeks later to re-secure work.

- Maybe they'll get stopped again (as this bus was) or they'll travel through the numerous border check-points without issue...

The game of cat-n-mouse, agreements & re-negotiation continues... everyone profits except the migrant laborer's who have to pay for their transport and fines.... in a vicious cycle that keeps 'wages low', profits for the bigger businesses high and the police purse-strings nicely flexing....

Confiscate the buses as they were used to commit a crime..

heavily fine the drivers and revoke their licenses.

Thailand still in the thick of people trafficking....

Never , EVER, thought I would say this, but Thailand's borders appear to be more secure than Biden's USA ones !

You mean like Governor DeSantis of Florida busing undocumented immigrants to other states under the ruse of financial security and pathway to legal residence?

Note: POTUS Biden just issued an Executive Order to close US border to migrants.

These people are (presumably) not wanted for crimes in their home country, so "extradition" is not involved at all.

Although I do not condone illegal immigration, on this occasion I am sympathetic towards these Burmese people who are trying to establish a better life away from the atrocities of the Junta and its terrorist organisation - the Tatmadaw!!

Does Thailand recognise "political asylum"?
