Internet banking on Linux: Anyone know a bank in Thailand that supports this?

Since 2021, there seems to have been very little interest in the Linux Forum here.

 

And, I am just hoping to breathe New Life into the Linux forum on AN.

 

I am doing my best.

 

Because, I hope that we can drum up a LOT more interest here on this forum, FOR Linux.....

 

This is my hope.

 

Linux Desktop, which is just a very tiny segment of users, is still way too underappreciated.

 

I began using Linux about 25 years ago.

Then, for some stupid reason, I switched back to Windows, maybe due to a misconceived thought that I needed applications such as those provided by ADOBE, etc.

 

So, I left Linux Desktop for about 5 years.

 

But now, I am back, FULL BORE and FULL FORCE....and.....I will NEVER MAKE the same mistake, again.

 

I do NOT use the DUAL_BOOT boot GRUB feature in openSUSE whereby I can have Windows installed, side-by-side, on my computers.....

 

NO WAY!

 

I will NEVER use Windows, ever again....

 

OpenSUSE Desktop is just TOO Nice, for me, now.

Linux Desktop is now NICE enough.

 

There is really no need to ever return to Windows, and I never will.

 

Talk about NICE!

 

HERE IS NICE!

 

And, this is what Linux Desktop Sounds Like to me, this year, 2024....

 

After 25 years of Linux Desktop, there is no excuse not to use it.

 

And, for sure, it's just going to get better, and BETTER, faster, and FASTER, in the coming years.

 

Windows is not good for the average person.

Believe me.

 

(Also, China, IMHO, will DUMP Windows, VERY SOON......)

 

Then, the Entire World will be off Windows.....

 

Wait and see, Folks...

 

 

(Windows OS will soon be an archaic relic of the past.....Just like the Gutenberg Printing Press.)

 

Nobody will remember WHY we used Windows.....someday in the near future.....

I've been running Linux servers for over 20 years and even I still use Windows Desktop.  There are some things you simply can't do on Linux Desktop because there is no app.  I could probably get used to using Linux desktop and work around the things I can't do, but there is no need and I don't feel like making my life more difficult.   There is one thing that I simply cannot get around and that is my business accounting software.  That will only run on Windows and that is probably my most important app, with literally decades of business history on it.  It's irreplaceable.

 

I have an old laptop that cannot be upgrade beyond Windows 10 so I will probably put Linux desktop on that to extend the life of it. I personally would probably go with Debian Desktop, just because I feel very comfortable with Debian working from the CLI.

Yes.

Now, this is true.

But, this will change as Linux becomes ever more pervasive.

I just like using banking apps on Linux, via an Android emulator...INSTEAD of my phone.....

Windows is free when you buy a laptop.

I did try an emulator for Android...but only in Windows.

 

So, then...yes....you are correct.

 

I should take some time to try a few Android emulators using Linux, I guess.

 

But, I guess, I was asking if anyone else might have already tried this.

 

Android games work on an emulator in Windows.

But, the emulators on Windows do not work with KBank app.

 

Why, I do not know.

 

(I will say again:  I have NO NEED to buy a new phone just to use a newer Android OS in order to run the KBank Android banking app.  There must be a better way.)

Seems the huffing and puffing all boils down to this:

 

The OP used to use the Kbank app on his old Samsung phone. As the Android OS stopped updating, and therefore became a security risk, the Kbank app stopped supporting it, just as Google Chrome stopped supporting Win 7.

 

The OP says he refuses to buy a new phone and foolishly thinks, or pretends he does, that the Kbank app should run under Linux. Whole thing may be another windup by this troll.

 

And the Kbank app will of course not run under an Android emulator--not all Android apps do, anyway--as it's not tied to a specific device (phone, w/ registered number), hence absurdly insecure.

 

In short, on desktops, you do online banking through browsers, not dedicated apps. A browser is an app, too.

Did Kasikorn stop providing internet banking recently?  Several banks have done so.

 

If KBank did stop then GG has no access except through a smartphone which he seems to find an anathema.

No, it is still working, in Linux as well. However, that is too easy for GammaGlobulin, he wants to run the mobile app on a desktop computer with Linux.

The phone app won't run on a PC based Android emulator, the phone apps are tied to the SIM and phone number registered against your bank account.

 

You can use browser based online banking (with banks that still support that), but not the phone app.
