webfact Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Riding the wave of popularity following Thai K-pop sensation Lisa's blockbuster "Rockstar" music video, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is launching a new walking tour to promote Bangkok's Chinatown. This tour will encompass key areas like Yaowarat, Songwat, and Talad Noi. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is also joining the effort, planning to add more Chinese atmosphere to Chinatown by replacing footpath paving with new tiles. These will feature the "Bo Tan" flower design and a "Yaowarat must go on" statement, enhancing the area's cultural appeal and making it a visual delight for tourists. Since the release of the 3-minute "Rockstar" music video, there's been a noticeable surge in visitors, particularly Lisa's fans, flocking to Yaowarat Road at night. They are keen to visit the exact spot where their idol performed. Pheu Thai party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who is also vice chair of the government’s "soft power" committee, commended the music video, calling it superb and a prime example of "soft power." Paetongtarn noted that Yaowarat has now become a household name and suggested that the government will leverage the video’s popularity to promote other attractions in the area, such as its famous street food. Responding to criticism that the government is capitalising on Lisa’s international prowess, government spokesman Chai Wacharonke defended the initiative. He asked, "What is wrong with riding the wave to promote our cultural heritage?" This intersection of entertainment and tourism promises significant benefits, drawing global attention to a culturally rich district and boosting local businesses. With carefully curated walking tours, visitors can delve deeper into Bangkok's historical and culinary delights while walking in the footsteps of their favourite star. -- 2024-07-01 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe 1 1

herfiehandbag Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 As I have said before, it was an entertaining video, a jolly song and she is a pretty girl. I don't think that many will make the trek to stand at the 7/11 she posed outside! Never mind TAT, another straw will float by in a few days or so!
ikke1959 Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Give her a bottle of alcohol and we are finished with this craziness....She will be prosecuted for promoting alcohol

NativeBob Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 "Avoid at any cost" was a slogan of Yowarat for last 30 years. Walking tour? what's next? Swimming aerobics in Chao Praya River? 1 2
jaywalker2 Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Lisa had to leave Thailand to achieve success. They never mention that. It's pathetic how the government tries to horn in on Lisa's popularity. 1
Chris Daley Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Paying every street vendor not to be dirty or smell of urine for a days filming. What an earner.

Not every Thai singer has to leave to achieve success, a famous 16 year old morlam singer got 4.7 million baht in tips (mali) last week alone, as the season wound up. Lamyai has 3 concerts today, thats about 400k in earnings, 52 concerts last month. 1

Gknrd Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 I look forward to the weekly or even bi-weekly things the TOT dreams up.
Chris Daley Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 So there like a pristine clean square in China Town now. The rest is a stinking cesspit. 1

The government's making some investment in the area, not a bad thing, and something private groups wouldn't have done. Similarly, the Liverpool city council has lent support to Beatles festivals, weekend breaks and walking tours. So is that also pathetic, trying to horn in on the Beatles' popularity? NO-O-O, not when it's in the UK! A walking tour for fans, most of whom aren't familiar with the area, seems appropriate, helpful to this historic area's economy, and likely welcome. It's not THAT big of a deal, however. But as our old buzzards have finished pooping on Pattaya's Bali Hai cleanup effort, they've merely flocked over to enjoy pooping on the walking tour.
