If you want to know what TAKE FIVE meant, back in the day, then just listen.

These two recordings are not the same.

Anyway, when I was young, I switched between Jazz and Underground Rock, on WMMR in Philly.

Those were the days....

I used to lie on my bed at night, just listening to WMMR, WWDB, using my HI-FI, with a tuner and an amplifier, and some decent speakers.

Late at night on WMMR, you could get some really great underground music.

Most reading these words do not know what underground music might have meant, back in the day.

It just meant:  The good stuff not available on AM Radio, that most people listened to in their cars, driving to pick up their laundry or buy groceries, or driving to the Country Club.

Very few people, then, knew much about underground music.

Even crappy music from Dylan, then, was not considered to be underground.

In case you do not know, WMMR was FAR different from what it now might be.

Wonderful DJs on WMMR, maybe back around 1967, or 1968....before we lost our freedom of the airwaves to the conglomerates....haha.

Now, all this stuff on YouTube really SUCKS....because.....

Why?

I know why.

Why should I even care to tell you why?

Regards....

Note:  Almost nothing to live for, these days, now that the arts have deteriorated, so far.....

Nobody likes Jackson Pollock, either...even though....

I do not know why.

They think he was just throwing around paint, without any purpose, or direction.

They know not much, obviously....

I have no patience for NITWITS....

you sound like a hipster......you're american so you won't understand what it's like at a private show with gordie (RIP) less than a few meters away. so for you in this case the hip will always be underground. you simply cannot understand it.

also hardly underground. after a few seconds it was familiar.

Mighty Aphrodite (1995): The song is prominently featured in this Woody Allen film, which tells the story of a man who adopts a son and discovers he is the result of a rape.
Pleasantville (1998): “Take Five” is used in this comedy-drama film, which explores the themes of social change and the effects of television on society.
Constantine (2005): The song is featured in this supernatural action film, which stars Keanu Reeves as a demon hunter.
Baby Driver (2017): “Take Five” is used in this action film, which follows a young getaway driver who uses music to stay focused while committing crimes.

In my case, the hip is titanium, and you will never understand this, until you get one.

Anyway, why don't you enlighten me concerning what you might think that I do not understand?

I am always receptive to your teachings.....

As I know you know....

I think Jackson Pollock is a great artist! Take a look at "Blue Poles"!

Yes.

You are correct.

But, I have never seen a Pollock painting, up close, in real life.

Years ago, it was possible to easily find high-resolution Pollock paintings on the internet....but...

Not no more.

So much fine art has now been removed from easy access on the internet, it seems.

And, such a shame, too.

But.....Why????

POINTLESS!

SINCERELY wish that I might  !!!!

I do not have the resources, nor the inclination, to travel the world, heating up the world, during this period of rampant Global Warming....

Therefore, high-resolution internet images, such as the Van Gogh Museum provides, for free, is the best way...for me.

Still, standing before a great work of art.....

The internet images can never provide the full experience...I realize.

Sorry man! We are here to enjoy life, and many are retired. That would be such a huge project, one would fear not having a work permit.

If you can secure a work permit, then I will be able to pay you a pittance, which is only what you deserve, of course.

Otherwise, I have already forgotten my original question by now, being almost as old as Biden, but minus a decade, in fact.

The Australian National gallery paid $1.3 million for it.

We are still unable to cure ourselves of the compulsion to buy Yankee trash.

That was one of our Prime Minister Gough Whitlam's winners. People derided him at the time - maybe you - but think what it's worth now. Not that into modern art but I think Pollock is the exception where it's not style or spin over substance.

“the compulsion to buy Yankee trash”

Please list the great accomplishments of Oz in the modern world compared to America.

I’ll start.

Australia

1.  Vegemite

2.  Bondi Beach lifeguards

3.  Roo bars

4.  Crocodile Dundee

.5.  Steve Irwin

6.  Extreme prejudice of the “darkies”.  Even to this day.

7.  Holden automobiles.  Never heard of outside OZ.

8.  Fosters beer

America

1.  The greatest achievements in the Industrial Revolution.  Standard Oil, US Steel, Ford, GM, Edison Electric.

2. Apple

4. Microsoft

5.  NASA.  1st man on the moon.

6.  Military Industrial Complex.  For better or worse.

7.  Salk Institute

Just to name a few.

You would think one would be more appreciated for the effort put out to keep you from speaking Japanese   The “Second Pearl Harbor” at Darwin was for a reason.

Those “Yankee Trash “ diesel submarines based out of Fremantle did a fine job of keeping the Jap transports from disembarking troops onto the wide open WA shoreline.

It would have been game over.

A daub is still a daub, irrespective of whether it is worth $1.3 million or $350 million. So who would the National Gallery sell it to, at the latter valuation?

No-one can say whether Pollock was sober when he painted Blue Poles. He was an alcoholic for most of his adult life. Substance from a drunk? Spare me.

IMO Pollock is not fit to clean the brushes of Australian painters such as Albert Namatjira, Sidney Nolan, or Pro Hart.

If you get the chance, go to the Western Australian Art Gallery and look at Nolan's "Desert Storm", a seven panel depiction of the Pilbara. That's real art, not paint dripped at random.
