That's not really a reasonable analogy, after coming out of the .com bust the economy was booming for quite a few years, till 2007-2008. Worldwide. 

 

Having said that the army are the last people in the world that should be running an economy, Prayuth absolutely decimated the economy with 9 years of his toxic rule, and apparently those fools still have quite a bit of influence in this current proxy administration.

The biggest crooks are those in the military, who through their illegal military coups have stolen the entire country, not just once, but many times, and none have ever been punished.

Why doesn't she just take the next flight to Thailand. She doesn't need a visa. She doesn't even need a home or hotel.

In December, the Supreme Court acquitted her of malfeasance in a 2011 administrative transfer. Additionally, in March, she was cleared of misconduct and price collusion charges linked to infrastructure development projects.

 

The Attorney-General’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) opted not to appeal these verdicts, closing critical legal hurdles and making Yingluck's return more plausible.

 

Thaksin has suggested that Yingluck’s case is simpler compared to his own, with fewer legal entanglements. Legal experts and political observers indicate that a return similar to Thaksin's is feasible, involving adjustments to current regulations to facilitate her reintegration without imprisonment.

 

Though some complaints against Yingluck remain under the NACC’s review, there is no immediate indication these cases will move forward. This opens the path for a potential return, eagerly awaited by her supporters and family.

This was also Thaksin's mentality. If you are elected with a sizeable majority and you are free  to commit any crime you like.  The land case was clear cut corruption. The Exim Bank case was clear corruption.  The rice pledging scam was clear cut corruption.  Thaksin always dismissed his criminal cases as political but never refuted the details of them.  In the case of his son's money laundry case, they always argued that there were another 100 or so people who received the money stolen from Krung Thai Bank in addition to him who were not charged.  That was true and they should have been charged but it didn't make the son any less guilty.

 

But anyway the US Supreme Court seems to agree that presidents can commit any crime they like too.
