A typical week on Thailand's roads
Maybe a century from now, when Thailand becomes a first world nation, if that happens. First of all they would have to devote trillions of additional baht to reforming the RTP and the highway patrol, both of which are spectacularly ineffective when it comes to dealing with reckless drivers, with any sort of moving violations. This almost never happens, so there is no deterrent. If I did the kind of things many of the morons on the road do in Thailand, in the US, I would lose my license in a week. Then the indifferent government would have to engage in major public safety campaigns, so Thailand has its work cut out for it, if this is ever going to change. -

Police Investigate Shocking Murder-Suicide of Family in Songkhla
Authorities are urgently investigating the tragic deaths of a family of four, after a woman allegedly shot and killed her husband, a former municipal councillor, along with their two teenage children, before taking her own life in a luxury home. On October 7, at 15:00, Pol. Col. Banterng Laowcharoen, the superintendent of Muang Songkhla Police Station, received a report of four bodies found inside a two-story house in Soi Saiburi 49, Boyang Subdistrict, Songkhla Province. Police, forensic teams, and rescue services were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found the body of the 62-year-old homeowner near the front door, and the body of his 15-year-old son on the living room sofa. Upstairs, the body of the 40-year-old wife was found in the bedroom, holding a 9mm handgun, while the body of their 17-year-old daughter was discovered in another bedroom. Initial investigations suggest that the wife shot her husband, who was a former local government councillor, as well as her son, a 10th-grade student at a prestigious local school, and her daughter, a 12th-grader preparing for university entrance exams, before turning the gun on herself. Police suspect the motive may stem from family-related issues, but further investigation is ongoing, with relatives being questioned for more details. The investigation continues as authorities seek to understand the full circumstances behind this event. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-08 -

Deadly Bus Fire Tragedy Highlights Safety Failures on Thai Roads
You can start with retraining your police force. Cops turning a blind eye to violations is giving the wrong impression to road users. A good start would be to fine a mother taking her children to school, at times riding 4 on a motorcycle without helmets. Many times I see cops riding their white Nmax and PCX ignoring other riders breaking the law. -

Danish man stabs himself with medical knife in Bangkok hospital
This man is obviously suffering from a bout of insanity, and my guess is that he didn't have much control of his mental facilities, but if you're going to try to kill yourself there are far better ways to do it, and those include techniques where many people are not traumatized by your actions. -

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
I've always believed that everyone should have the choice and make their own decision whether to file or not. I also believe they should not be derided and called stupid or crazy if they follow the law and filed when no tax is due. I am pleased to see that you have modified your position. -

Luxembourger Arrested for Illegally Guiding Tourists on Rattanakosin Island
BANGKOK - The Thai Tourist Police, in cooperation with officials from the Department of Tourism, arrested Mr. Nico Alexis David Gamel Frederich, a 44-year-old Luxembourg national, for illegally operating as a tour guide. Frederich was apprehended on Trok Wat Tri Thot Thep Road in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon District while leading a group of foreign tourists on scooter tours around the historic Rattanakosin Island. The investigation began when Yongyot Samransuk, head of the Tour Business and Guide Registration Office, informed authorities about a foreign national allegedly guiding tourists without proper authorization. Acting on this tip, the Tourist Police conducted surveillance and observed Frederich leading a group of international visitors on scooters, showcasing various sites around the island without a licensed guide. Upon his arrest, Frederich admitted to the charges, stating he did not possess a license to operate as a tour guide in Thailand. Authorities discovered that Frederich had been actively promoting his services as a guide to tourists, despite lacking the required work permit and guide license under Thai law. Picture courtesy: Siam Rath He was promptly charged with “acting as a tour guide without a license” and “working as a foreigner without a valid work permit.” Frederich was transferred to Chana Songkhram Police Station, where he awaits further legal proceedings. Officials have reminded tourists and operators alike that unlicensed guiding is a violation of Thai law, and violators will face penalties. The authorities have been increasing their efforts to crack down on illegal tour operators, especially foreign nationals who offer services without the proper documentation, reported Siam Rath.
