Icelandic Man Found Dead in Samut Prakan Hotel Room

In a puzzling and tragic incident, a 54-year-old Icelandic man was discovered dead in his hotel room in Samut Prakan, Thailand. The body bore no visible signs of injury, and the room contained only beer cans and liquor bottles.

 

The man had been residing at the well-known hotel for nearly a month. According to hotel staff, he had a routine of checking out and back in daily around 10.30 a.m. However, when he did not follow his usual pattern on July 17th, a concerned hotel employee used a keycard to enter his room and found him deceased.

 

Police Lieutenant Colonel Damrong Sukchusri from Bang Kaew Police Station received the report at 11.30 a.m. and promptly proceeded to the scene with his team. Among them were Police Colonel Direk Thongkamkaew, specialist doctors from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital, and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.

 

In the second-floor room, the Icelandic man was found lying beside the bed, dressed in a black T-shirt and red shorts, with hands and feet stiffened, indicating he had been dead for between six and twelve hours. A thorough examination revealed no signs of physical assault or struggle.

 

Authorities documented the liquor bottles and beer cans found in the room as evidence. Subsequently, the body was transported to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.

 

The hotel employee, who found the body, mentioned that the man drank alcohol daily. This detail led police to initial suspicions that excessive alcohol consumption or a related health issue might have contributed to his death. However, confirmation of the cause awaits the autopsy results from the hospital.

 

As investigations continue, the police await further insights from medical professionals to solve the mystery surrounding this tragic death.

Gawd, I'd like to know how many Foreigners a day die here in Thailand. 

 

Seems like I'm reading deaths of foreigners every few hours.

Because it's newsworthy being foreigners. Almost 1700 locals die every day here.

We mostly hear about foreigners because we are indeed foreigners, and news. Most of the crapola that goes on here daily never gets to the news station. They show things on the news here that would never make it on any stations back in the US, but they do show when foreigners do something, the daily road deaths because there are so many, people robbing gold shops leaving their scooters outside so they can follow them home tracking the license plates, snakes in homes, which happens daily all over Thailand, and other things that you would never see back home. People "jump" from buildings here quite a lot, and I'm thinking many of them are pushed, this because it happens so often it's an excuse for suicides or drunken behavior.

What has any of that got to do with dead bodies turning up daily ? INCLUDING THAIS just found nowhere near tall buildings.

I was just responding to what he said about foreigner deaths happening hourly here. That anything about foreigners makes news, while most of what happens here you'll never hear about, and it involves thousands of locals. People die in every country all day long but you don't hear about but a tiny fraction of it. In the US a lot of people die daily also, but it isn't newsworthy unless it involves a celebrity, politician or some other well know person. Foreigners here get the news because we are a tiny minority. In America, everyone is a foreigner or has relatives and ancestors that are.

The fact that very many expats in Thailand are 50 0r 60 + years old means that it would be quite a lot. But they probably would have died in the same way and same age in their home countries.

We hear about dead Thai bodies turning up here all the time from babies to grannies, yes HERE ON AN. It is NOT just foreigners that get reported !

I think big factors in the foreigner death toll are many foreigners that come here have mental problems, here have trouble adapting to life here, have too much too much free time and nothing better to do with it than drink and do drugs, and don't have any or many friends here.

Seems a bit peculiar that he was checking in and out daily when he had been staying there a month. Perhaps knew his time was up at some stage (assuming he was paying daily as the report suggests) based on  and the room contained only beer cans and liquor bottles. or finally decided on which day his time was up? 

 

Whatever the final outcome is, still a very sad story.

So then, in the end, he finally did check out?

 

Also, what was the point of the ritual of checking out, and then in again, every 24 hours?

This might have been a strategy to get full room service, and a freshly cleaned room, every day.

Also, fresh linen, every day.

 

To do this, one would probably need to check out of one room at noon, then walk around for awhile, and then return to the hotel, and then check in, again.

But also, one might need to choose a different room number,  preferably at random so that the hotel would not provide a room that was not fully cleaned.

Still, this seems like a lot of work.

It might be better to just pay extra for full maid service, and then tip the maids.

 

Iceland is a beautiful place with sheep that stand around individually, and separated from other sheep.

While there, I never saw a flock of sheep, and only marveled at sheep standing by themselves, independently.

Sheep are not sheeple in Iceland.

Yes.

For sure.

He wanted to have a completely cleaned room, fresh linen, every day, but with no extra charge.

Most hotels will only fully change linens once every few days.

Or, maybe he was just restless.

That's very true. I lived there for 20 years, and the last 3 years I was not working. I started to get very bored and would be out drinking most days, partly because I had nothing else to do. Since leaving Thailand I've stopped smoking after 44 years (too expensive in the UK), and cut down on drinking, 60 in January.
