Enter UK on UK tourist visa and then cross from Northern Ireland to Republic of Ireland. What immigration checks are there? How about flying from mainland UK to Ireland?

Yes Thai Nationals can still travel to Ireland if they are in possession of a UK short term Standard Visit visa, and have entered the UK first.

This concession doesn’t apply to other categories of visa, such as Settlement.

Unless you qualify for the Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme or the British Irish Visa Scheme a valid UK visa does not entitle you to travel to Ireland without a visa. Further information on these schemes is available on the website of the Irish Immigration Service
