And the gumption to complain about it and paying 99 baht ...omg unbelievable I really can't believe people nowadays, A fantastic well run restaurant They want a 5 star dinner at 1 star prices. I have a Cheap Charlie Card, (had to, my name is Charlie) the food isn't fantastic beyond all else. But it is good, average for the area, and the desserts are innovative and tasty. I would say your getting 2 to 3 star food at a 1 star price sooo. Yup I'm happy and go back and gi e good reviews because they deserve. Never had bad service are crappy food, the steak is,, not aged, not 2000 bhat, but tasty and under 200. 1 1

Cheap Charlies 150 gram steak meal is 239 baht as a Saturday special, and tasted like leather. Witherspoons sell a good 200 gram steak meal for 299 baht as Wednesday special, so Cheap Charlies definitely not the best value around when you consider taste an important aspect 😀

I tried the 99 baht Saturday steak and chips and yes impossible to chew, but they do get bad batches same beef stew which is usually very good 1

I think someone posted early in the thread, why would a restaurant put up a steak meal that's so bad that you dont want to finish it, no matter the price

It's up to them to choose/order the right cut and to treat it accordingly. If not possible to chew it should be be struck off the bill. Price is irrelevant.

I would hand it back to them stating "Cannot eat...change". But realistically, I wouldn't be buying cheap steak in the first place. Cheap steak is for braising and slow cooking. At the very least, learn how to tenderise cheap beef steak before deigning to serve it to paying customers. 1

It's a 239 baht small 150 gram steak and it's the most expensive meal on their menu (so I would assume it should be their best meal). The 99 baht price is only if you purchase a separate "Specials Card" whereby all specials are 99 baht for 3 months.

I had no idea there was such a scheme . You have opened up a Pandora's box ,a saying I heard recently. I have no origins of where that actually comes from,I guess Pandora ? Thankyou for your service

pomchop Posted January 19 Posted January 19 The first clue regarding cheap beef is to notice when you go around rural thailand is how few cows you will see. Eat chicken and pork and seafood that is plentiful and local like Thais do and overall you can expect a better meal at a low price. 1

I see cows everywhere I cycle, lots of moms and babies grazing the roadside verges unsupervised, some more wandering around the cropped rice paddies. This one walks by my local coffee shop with his mom every morning.

Supply and demand also has a lot to do with the price of a cheap charlies "steak" and thailand does not have a huge supply of local beef....just up the road from charlies there is a sign advertising a steak for 999 baht for an aussie imported beef.
scubascuba3 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Their coleslaw is inedible, can i get a discount on the 99 baht?
Pattaya57 Posted January 20 Author Posted January 20 I think people are missing the point. It doesn't matter the cost of the steak meal at 239 baht or 99 baht if you purchased the 3 month specials card. It's a matter of why would a restaurant serve an inedible meal as the most expensive meal on their menu, therefore making people think it might actually be good 😆 Actually I walked passed CC on Saturday and they've dropped the price to 219 baht so it might even taste worse now 😀

No. The price of beef in that region is relatively stable, at 240 baht per kg or under. Of course you can choose to pay more in supermarkets or for 'exotic' imports.
