Thai - Cambodia Conflict CAAT Issues Travel Advisory Amid Thai-Cambodian Border Tensions
File picture courtesy of Khaosod. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued a travel advisory urging Thai nationals who must travel to Cambodia to closely monitor flight updates and follow official guidance from the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, in light of escalating tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border. The advisory, released on the morning of 25 July, comes in response to the ongoing conflict near the border between the two nations, which has led to heightened concerns over traveller safety and transportation logistics. CAAT advised that passengers planning to travel between Thailand and Cambodia should check with their respective airlines for the latest flight information, as airlines may alter aircraft types in order to accommodate the surge in demand from travellers seeking to return to Thailand. Travellers who already possess flight tickets but wish to alter their departure date or time are encouraged to contact their airlines directly to enquire about seat availability and terms of modification. Passengers are also advised to ensure all travel documents are in order to help ease airport congestion and avoid delays. In cases where passengers are unable to reach the airport as scheduled, CAAT recommends checking with the airline for any available assistance measures or alternative arrangements. The authority concluded by stressing the importance of keeping abreast of official announcements and news from government sources to ensure safe and well-informed travel planning during this period of uncertainty. Thai - Cambodia Conflict War Crime Accusations Fly as Cambodia Bombards Thai Civilians in Border Assault

(Royal Thai Army via AP) Rocket Assault on Thai Territory BANGKOK - Cambodia has launched a series of aggressive attacks against Thai civilians by firing rockets and artillery across the shared border. The strikes resumed for a second day on July 25, targeting deserted homes in the Srivichian subdistrict of Nam Yuen, Ubon Ratchathani. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, as residents had already evacuated to makeshift shelters. War Crime Allegations Emerge The Thai army has accused Cambodia of committing war crimes for intentionally aiming at civilian targets, a clear breach of international humanitarian principles. Despite provocations, the Thai air force refrained from targeting civilian areas in return. Major General Winthai Suvari highlighted Cambodia's alleged use of disinformation, blaming Thailand for initiating the border clashes. Casualties and Counterattacks The violence has resulted in significant casualties, with a dozen Thai villagers and two soldiers dead, alongside 24 civilians and six soldiers injured. Additionally, a separate attack on a 7-Eleven convenience store at a gas station in Kantharalak led to seven civilian deaths and 14 serious injuries. In response, Thai forces launched airstrikes against Cambodia's military positions, reportedly neutralising several key installations and enemy tanks, according to Thai Newsroom. Escalating Conflict and Humanitarian Concerns Amidst the escalating conflict, Thai and Cambodian forces have engaged in intense battles, with drones and tanks now part of the arsenal. Estimates suggest 25 Cambodian soldiers have been killed, with more wounded. The situation underscores growing humanitarian concerns as both nations await international intervention to de-escalate the tensions. Conclusion The ongoing conflict along the Thai-Cambodian border continues to endanger lives and violate humanitarian standards. As both nations mobilise their military resources, the international community watches closely, underscoring the need for urgent diplomatic efforts to avoid further escalation. The young female driver of the vehicle was left in shock and in tears at the scene, while colleagues of the victims, who worked at a local convenience store, broke down upon arriving. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 16:30 on 24 July on Highway 3076, near the Rural Roads Office in Khlong Takrao Subdistrict, Tha Takiap District. Police from Tha Takiap Police Station and local rescue personnel quickly arrived at the scene. Emergency responders found the two deceased men, brothers who worked as a store manager and staff member at a convenience store, lying in the middle of the road. A motorcycle lay nearby, damaged. The vehicle involved in the collision, a white Ford Everest SUV, had sustained damage to its front end. The driver of the SUV, a 25-year-old woman, was visibly distraught and crying uncontrollably. She told police that she vaguely remembered the motorcycle appearing to veer out of a curve, crossing into her lane before crashing into the front of her vehicle. Colleagues of the deceased, who had rushed to the scene upon hearing the news, were seen in emotional distress, crying as they identified the bodies of their friends. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. The bodies were taken to hospital. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-07-25 -
