I am seriously thinking about not renewing my marriage extension this year.

unlimited 2 month T visas etc - why should I jump through any hoops, much less have a face to face with a sourpuss IO?

 

If anything it's an excuse to go to Laos/Cambodia/Nam/Bali/Phils/wherever for a few dirty days away from the Mrs.

You make a valid point Bob. However, often "don't fix what ain't broke" can apply. Yes there are many visa options available that can now be used BUT just as quickly as they came, they can be withdrawn or changed.

If that happens you may have to start the marriage visa process all over again.

The only thing consistent is the inconsistency. 

 

If you have something that works and does the job, why mess with it.😀

Me and Mrs G were discussing a couple of evenings ago maybe returning to Thailand.

 

Then we  got in to the hassles for me.

 

In the US Mrs G is a Permanent Resident, soon to be citizen. No 90 day checks, no money in the bank, apart from the fact she can't vote she looks just like me.

 

I just don't think I'm ready for all that hassle again. Just bring in something looking like when Thai spouses go to the West and maybe I'll think again.

If you are over 50, get a retirement visa. 

 

No hassle, just need the 800k baht. 

 

I use an agent, I get charged a little bit of money, they do it all for me.

Exactly what I did Scuba. Was fed up with the 70 plus pages of paperwork, stupid photos all around the house, etc. Bank statement for the year, a photo I.D. and a couple of signatures now. I also have to concur with another poster that, as fast as these new visa appear they can disappear just as fast.

Never had a marriage visa, too much frigging about, the extension of stay based on retirement is bad enough but much simpler.

I find the marriage ext  quite simple..  and you only need to keep 400k in the bank  2 months before  and during the  under consideration period 

 I keep a seperate acct for this so ..  it's always available

it's only a 1900 Baht fee  plus 1 trip to the bank for a letter and 2 month statement 

staff @ Hua Hin imm, are very polite and easy to deal with .    and it's only 15 mins from home

the only pain in the *** is having to sign the paperwork in duplicate so thats like 80 times

I'm going to apply for the annual extension next month but I think next year I'll have a good look at the best options to enjoy just under half a year in Thailand and the rest back in Australia. Want to see the new visa exempt rules settle a little before relying on them.
