In the good old days every Brit and American on this forum used to be Special Forces / SAS

These days a more popular employment history seems to be an advanced degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Chemistry and weather forecasting.

Then we have quite a few posters who seem to be experts in Statistical Science.

I blame this on Trump.

Do you have a PhD in AN analysis?

Believe it or not there are some well educated ex-pats out there. In Pattaya/Jomtien area I am friends with a retired Professor of Ionospheric Physics from the UK, a Professor of Hydrology from France and a Professor of Biochemistry from Norway who also speaks about a dozen languages including Thai, Chinese and Japanese. I suspect there are plenty more retired academics elsewhere in Thailand. I have a BSc and PhD in Physics, MSc Advanced Engineering, BA East Asian Studies and an MBA.

I keep hearing about statistical analysis but so far, have never seen any of it. Statistical analysis is a moron's conception of what smart people might do with their smartness.

Luckily, we have a poster here with a 130 IQ (down from a previous claim of 185) to explain everything to us. He also slept with 1,500 women.

And yet, and yet, these geniuses have all day to post here. Usually, for hours on end. Check the timestamps.

I actually have a degree in Quantitave Methods and Analysis. This was back in the late 80's and  advances in computer technology made my degree and job prospects pretty much useless. Even back in the 1980's and 1990's  computers could make calculations faster then I could with a calculator. I still have my Hewlet Packard 12C calculator which I bought back in 1987.  Still ticks after many battery changes.  So I did the next logical thing and become a police officer. Yes it sounds rather absurd but it pretty much sums my life.

Those calculators were beautiful.  I bought an 11C while travelling in the US, but it became sadly misplaced, possibly stolen, from my jacket pocket whilst in the pub.

Now I feel a little sad

Never held a gun, no secret agent, no crypto genius.

Just a regular retired old crusty, albeit working as an airline grunt in my latter days

I just gotta get an alter ego to compete!

I have no stories of parachuting in to enemy territory to heroically rescue fallen comrades.

Best I can do is get someones lost bag to them!

So sad lol

That is perfectly fine.

If there some kind of Airline disaster in the future you can pitch in as a Flight Mission Specialist/Principal Engineer/Pilot.... take your pick.

I worked for three months in the Dept of Census and Statistics in Rhodesia in the seventies. Does that count.? I'd like to say that I had carnal knowledge of a statistician but I didn't.

To be fair, beings as there are literally thousands of special forces (active/retired), it wouldn't surprise me if a few made it on here... though they would/should generally keep quiet. As to the barstool sas... hmmm 😴

Same crypto, a huge number of people made big money since 2010 ish.

I had an HP 48GX, dang I loved that thing. Used it for 20 years until the display took a dump.

They never tell you what exactly they are doing and if you do ask it's something vague like consulting or marketing. A young-ish fellow hunched over their laptop at a high end cafe acting like they uber successful. It always seems to be a millenial.

I bet it helped you keep score afterwards, though.

Not sure if someone put a slide rule in my hands today I could actually remember what to do with it.

The Texas Instruments Scientific Calculator transformed my college life back in the day.

From the day I owned one never looked at a slide rule again

I like that, I'm gonna work on my job title before the next disaster.

But for today focused on the fact I got a damn FAA audit today. I'm kinda feeling I'd prefer that parachuting into enemy territory thing!
