Fire at Thai Temple in New York Claims 2 Lives, Including a Buddhist Monk
Picture capture from facebook video. A devastating fire broke out at a Thai Buddhist temple in New York, claiming the lives of two individuals, including a Buddhist monk. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the blaze. According to a report by ABC 7 New York, the fire erupted at approximately 06:00 local time on 12 February at two buildings, including a Buddhist temple, on Anthony Avenue in the Tremont neighbourhood of the Bronx. Firefighters discovered the victims on the second floor of a residential building. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Temple members confirmed that one of the victims was a Buddhist monk, while the other was a visitor to the temple. More than 150 firefighters were deployed to tackle the inferno, successfully bringing the blaze under control by 08:30.Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. According to Siam Town US, a Thai language news outlet in the USA, the affected temple has been identified as Wat USA Pruettayaram, a Thai Buddhist temple in New York. The report cited a Facebook post by a monk, Thanat Inthisan, who shared a video of the fire as it engulfed the building. -- 2025-02-13 -
