Citibank TH exit and Citibank AU sale has cost me thousands.

Featured Replies

Since Citibank TH withdraw all their ATM's and UOB took over as well as Citibank Australia selling out to NAB,   it is costing me thousands of baht that I never had to pay before when they were here before.    And to make it worse,  I can't receive sms codes from NAB so I cancelled that one.

If a withdrawal of 20,000 baht is required from Australia :

3%   =   600 baht

220  =   220 baht

-------------------------

Total =  820 baht

This equates to around 4.1%   which is expensive on 20k.

Is there a bank that doesn't charge for international ATM withdrawals   ?

Just goes to show how much the banks are making when Citibank could do it for free .....    I miss Citibank AU.

Why 3%?

Krungsri 30,000,only fee is 220

I don't know where the 3% comes from. No banks refund the 220 fee anymore

Possible alternatives...

Open a Wise Account.

Open a Thai Bank Account.

Transfer Money in a Thai Account via WISE with more favourable exchange rates ?

(I think thats how most people do it - no ?)

You mean open a Thai Wise account or an Australian Wise account .. ?

I already have the Thai bank account ...

so the Wise account will access my Australian bank account and transfer into the Thai account without any transfer fee   ?    no 3%  charge   ??   and no 220 baht charge ... ?

Not sure about Australia, but I use Wise to transfer USD from American banks.  Fees are the lowest i have ever found, but still non-zero.   Keep in mind that Wise doesn't treat all Thai bank accounts equally with regards to speed and transfer limits.  Kasikorn and Krungthai usually have instant transfers, whereas Bangkok Bank can take a few days depending on the amount. Not sure about other Thai banks.

Also note that Wise cannot transfer money out of Thailand as of 6 months ago.  I haven't checked since.
