Heroic Homeowner Disarms Loan Sharks in Nonthaburi Machete Attack

In a dramatic turn of events in Nonthaburi yesterday evening, a 56-year-old man, Aran, defended himself against a group of loan sharks armed with a machete. Aran managed to disarm the attackers, who then fled in panic, abandoning their vehicle.

Relatives reported that the gang invaded Aran’s home in Moo 5, Saothonghin subdistrict, Bangyai district, at 6pm, aiming to collect a debt from his partner, Aoy. However, Aoy was not at home, and Aran warned the initial visitor, who refused to leave. Hours later, the visitor returned with six friends, all on motorcycles.

The confrontation escalated quickly as the gang began assaulting Aran, throwing beer bottles, and brandishing a machete. In a remarkable display of courage, Aran fought back, seized the machete, and called for his brother, who helped chase the gang away.

Afterwards, the Bangyai Police collected evidence at the scene, including motorcycles, helmets, and the machete. Aran, although questioned thoroughly by the police, insisted he had no involvement with the debt or the loan sharks.

Despite the gang’s later claim that Aran had assaulted them first, investigations confirmed their trespassing. In a bid to resolve the conflict, the loan sharks proposed a settlement, offering to cover 20,000 baht for Aran’s medical expenses and waive the 10,000 baht debt. Aran, wishing to avoid further trouble, agreed to the arrangement.

This incident highlights the growing problem of violent debt collection methods and raises questions about the enforcement of laws protecting citizens from such invasions.

And the police let the sharks continue their work?

If I was Aran I'd watch my back for the rest of my life... those loan sharks are now out-or-pocket and won't be happy.

He should take the B20,000 and have the loan sharks disappear permanently, it might cost a bit more than that, but money well spent.

The use of the word "disarm" with "machete" conjures up a rather gory vision.....
