In a dramatic incident that unfolded on September 4, chaos erupted on the streets of Bangkok when the driver of a six-wheel truck went on a rampage, colliding with multiple vehicles and leading police on a 30 kilometre chase that ended in Samut Prakan province. The suspect, after evading capture for over an hour, eventually abandoned the vehicle and leaped into a canal in a desperate attempt to escape authorities. The ordeal near the Kluai Nam Thai intersection in the Phra Rama 4 area of the capital. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the truck driver exhibiting erratic behavior as he drove the massive vehicle in circles around the Maleenont Tower on Rama 4 Road, located in the Klong Toei district. The truck, with its driver seemingly in a frenzied state, narrowly missed pedestrians and other vehicles as it sped towards Phra Khanong intersection before making a U-turn back towards Maleenont Tower. The situation intensified when the truck reached the Kluai Nam Thai intersection and was halted by a red traffic light. Taking advantage of the brief stop, four police officers on motorcycles, who had been pursuing the truck, attempted to apprehend the driver. They approached the vehicle and one officer climbed onto the truck, trying to break the window. However, the driver, armed with a knife, retaliated, forcing the officer to retreat. In a bid to stop the rampaging vehicle officers opened fire on the truck's tyres, discharging over ten rounds. Despite their efforts, the driver managed to continue maneuvering the vehicle, swerving right and left in an attempt to escape. The truck struck several cars stopped at the traffic light, causing significant damage but, fortunately, no serious injuries. With the truck still operational, the suspect sped off towards Samut Prakan province. The chase continued for 30 kilometres until the truck was finally located near a canal in the Bang Nam Chut area of Bang Phli district. Abandoning the vehicle, the driver made a desperate escape by diving into the canal, disappearing into the murky waters. Police officers have cordoned off the area and are continuing their search for the suspect. The situation has drawn significant public attention, with many expressing concern on social media, over the safety risks posed by the chase and the driver’s reckless actions. Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the driver's behavior and are investigating whether drugs or other substances may have played a role. The incident remains under investigation, with police urging anyone with information to come forward. The search for the suspect is ongoing. -- 2024-09-04 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe 3

Popular Post Georgealbert
UPDATE Truck Driver Arrested After Injuring Pedestrian and Causing Multiple Collisions Pictures from social media. The truck driver responsible for a chaotic rampage through Bangkok has been apprehended by authorities. The incident started in the late afternoon when the driver of a six-wheel truck struck a pedestrian at the Kluai Nam Thai intersection, leaving the victim with severe injuries. Instead of stopping to render aid, the driver fled the scene, recklessly speeding through the streets of Bangkok. The chase left a trail of destruction, with numerous vehicles damaged in the process. The pursuit eventually led the truck to the Bang Chalong area in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province, where the driver finally brought the truck to a halt near a canal. In a final bid to evade capture, the driver exited the truck and jumped into the canal, attempting to escape by swimming and hiding in a drainage pipe. However, the police, who had been in close pursuit, swiftly surrounded the area. After an intense search, the suspect was found hiding in the pipe and was taken into custody without further incident. The injured pedestrian was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment. The extent of the injuries is still being assessed, but reports indicate that the individual is in serious condition. Authorities have launched an investigation into the driver’s motives, with initial suspicions pointing towards possible drug use or a mental health crisis. The police are also working to assess the full extent of the damages caused during the rampage and are calling on witnesses to provide any additional information that may aid in the investigation. -- 2024-09-04 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe 2 1
Georgealbert
UPDATE "Man in Frenzy" Truck Rampage Facing Multiple Charges Picture courtesy of ThaiRath. A man, described as being in a state of frenzy, drove a six-wheeled truck wildly along Rama IV Road, causing widespread chaos, injuries, and fatalities. The suspect is now under medical supervision and facing multiple serious charges. Police Major General Witawat Chinkham, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5, provided more information about the event. The suspect first hit a pedestrian crossing the street at around 13:00, near At Narong Road in the jurisdiction of Tha Ruea Police Station, leaving the pedestrian injured before fleeing the scene. When the police were alerted, they attempted to pursue him, during which time the suspect collided with several other vehicles along Rama IV Road. The chase intensified when the suspect made a U-turn near Kluay Nam Thai Hospital in the Klong Tan Police Station area, where he struck a motorcyclist, resulting in one injury and one fatality. The suspect then fled onto the expressway, eventually exiting near Bang Phli before being captured by police. Following his capture, the suspect remains under medical supervision, while police from both Tha Ruea Police Station and Bang Phli Police Station oversee his custody. Authorities reported that the suspect abandoned his truck and jumped into a canal, swimming nearly two kilometres, before hiding in a drainage pipe at a nearby factory. When police tried to apprehended him, he was carrying two sharp metal objects. Police attempted to negotiate with the suspect to surrender, but he refused to comply. After a period of silence, officers discovered the man had attempted to hang himself with a rope. Although he was still breathing when they found him, his breathing was faint, and he was unconscious, unable to speak. He was immediately rescued and rushed to the hospital. Authorities found no illegal items in the truck. There was no indication of alcohol consumption or drug use during the incident, although a background check revealed that the suspect had previously been arrested in November 2017 in Phuket for drug possession. As of now, one of the victims injured during the chase in the Klong Tan area has succumbed to their injuries. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thiti Saengsawang has expressed concern over the case, emphasising that the suspect must be fully prosecuted for all the offenses committed. In Klong Tan’s jurisdiction, the suspect faces charges of reckless driving causing death and fleeing the scene. In Tha Ruea's jurisdiction, he faces charges of reckless driving causing severe injury, while in Thonglor, he faces charges of reckless driving causing property damage and resisting arrest. The investigation is still ongoing, and further charges may be filed as more evidence comes to light. Authorities are determined to ensure that the suspect is held accountable for all of his actions during this destructive episode. -- 2024-09-05 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe

Can hear a lot of shots in the video ... Why did they not shoot at the tires to definitely stop the truck ? A 6 wheeler with a driver gone mad , could do a lot of damage ...

newbee2022
Not the best policemanship being unable to stop that maniac when driving the truck. 30 km run after a truck.... Hopefully they might catch the fish. Also they are advised to inform themselves how it's done in US. (Deep sigh)

Fortean1
Based on the number of 'yaba' pills seized there must be many using this meth or speed. Cannabis is a sarcastic remark I'm sure. Speed kills in more ways than one. Edited September 7 by Fortean1 I added a sentence.
