HOW TO: Remove Ugly Stickers from Indoor Unit of AC? Need HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Tomorrow, I need to remove the poor-quality energy stickers from an indoor AC unit.

They are extremely....low quality, with bad adhesive characteristics....

What is the point in designing a beautiful AC unit, only to stick on an Ugly-A sticker.

image.png.b77b26f1c04d9b5988e486fdd04fbead.png

The other problem with these stickers is that they are very poor quality, and the adhesive seems harmful, cosmetically, to the machine, and the finish of the machine.

What is the best way?

I don't have a hairdryer, by the way.

Is alcohol OK?

Also, I have tried alcohol in the past, and alcohol does not do a very proper job, usually.

If the machine were metal, then it would be easier.

Some good companies, SMART COMPANIES, such as the water-heater company....STEIBEL ELTRON...provide the sticker in a box, separately, so that you can add it on, if you really LOVE it.

You see?

There ARE some companies that understand aesthetics, and the importance of beauty, and ergonomics.

Other companies, most companies....have no clue.

I do not to pay so much money for a complete EYESORE!

Why can't major companies understand this simple thing, just as  does Steibel Eltron?

Are they completely OBTUSE??????

So, I need to remove the sticker before having the unit mounted on the wall.

But, I just need to make sure that the plastic finish is not damaged in the removal.

And, the energy stickers are GARBAGE quality, for sure.....

Really need help with this.....

BIG TIME!

Best regards,

Gamma

Note:  By the way...I am SURE you guys, some of you, know the answer to this HOW TO....  And, I have an urgent need, at the moment....  THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sticker removal spray or liquid. Available in many shops, department stores and office equipment branches.

Would soap and warm water still work?

And, most importantly, might it be less destructive to the polished plastic surface?

I really do not know...

My other question:

Do you not think that it is REASONABLE to expect the installer/manufacturer...to safely remove the huge UGLY-A sticker without damaging the machine?

I do not have time  enough to buy anything like this:

Beware for those special liquids to remove those stickers , as sometimes they take also the gloss from the plastics away as it did on my Samsung fridge ....., just test on a not much visible part first ...

Do you have an iron and a dry cotton rag?

You can probably figure out the strategy.

The residual of what doesn’t come off will look uglier than what’s on there now.

This is why I am considering asking the manufacturer to solve the sticker problem

They must have accepted ways of cleaning their AC...right?

The label does NOT show in the ads for this machine, which is not an Hitachi machine.

I have found acetone to be the most effective solvent for removing sticker adhesive, PROVIDED THAT it does not attack the underlying substrate.

IIRC I bought a 1 litre container on Lazada.

Acetone would probably not be safe for the plastic used on the AC casing, would you not say?

Another option to consider is to put a cartoon sticker over it such as Bugs Bunny or Hello Kitty, maybe a  floral image would do.

Right

This is definitely the Thai way....for most.

The usual practice is to test an unobtrusive area of the plastic with the solvent. It's quite easy to tell if it is attacked.

I found THIS idea....

And, it is the best....IF it works on Thai Energy stickers.

Just oil, to soak the sticker.

Then, just soapy water.

IF it works....then this will not harm the plastic...

Sure that is the best thing for you to do.  They need a good laugh today.

Wow, just logged in and this is definitely the most important thread today, and will possibly go on all weekend unless GG starts another thread.

How often do you look at the A/C unit and notice the sticker?

I am so happy that my Mitsus show a big number 5!

No. That will come off too with a little patience. I hate ugly stickers too and unless they have important information I remove them and anything sticky they leave behind.

Obviously ....don't use anything abrasive or staining..

Well maybe paint a pastiche Jackson Pollock over the whole front of the aircon?

The paint thickness should be enough to mask the contours of the sticker and you would have created a wonderful talking point for the members of your poetry group.

👍🫠

IMPORTANT AND URGENT UPDATE:

Today, the new AC arrived.

Never mind what brand, because I am NOT saying.

Suffice to say that it is a premium brand.

Good News!

I peeled off the sticker....

Ever so slowly and carefully....

JUST LIKE YOU SHOULD DO WITH ANY OLD VIRGIN....

And, thankfully...

The sticker came off in one piece, but just barely.

(Maybe they are using better energy stickers these days.)

So, anyway, once the sticker was peeled loose...

Then I just used a bit of plain soap and water, to wash away any remaining adhesive, which was not much.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  I would like to caution all manufacturers of premium consumer products that....

They need to supply the ENERGY STICKERS......SEPARATELY AND UNATTACHED from what they sell.

This is the best way to reduce extreme consumer/customer anxiety.

How do I know that this is what they SHOULD do?

Because, this is what Steibel Eltron does with its hot water heaters which have a plastic casing.

If this GREAT company Eltron can do it...

Than any local manufacturer can do it....TOO.

NOTE4:  Anytime I here the name Eltron...I immediately think of ELWOOD, of the late and grate Chicago Prison Fame...

You got any WHITE BREAD?.....????

You...all want anything to DRINK with that????

I'll have some of DAT.....TOASTED white bread.....!!!!
