Today I met the first farang returning home because of exchange rate
He is going to be very poor. Rent, food, and medical will break him quickly in California. Was just there and the cost of living blew my mind. Almost double of before covid. -

Reduce taxation by gifting.
That's not true either! You wrote: "The reality is most of Thai people including the poor workforce you mention is hustling doing multiple undeclared side businesses in order to get by, this is where the tax money is". I agree there are those people, lots of them. But the sum total of those individual earnings does still not amount to anything substantial that's worthwhile the effort chasing. Why go after Somchai just because he's 50 or 100k baht per year over the threshold for filing but hasn't? He's hustling like that because he's trying, as you say, to get by. He's not a tax evader in the true sense. Then you wrote: "Needless to mention the elite and high-so who are well structured to avoid an even bigger amount of potential tax. TRD is imo currently not in capacity (or not willing as you think so) to collect that". All this nonsense about TRD not being able to or unwilling to make their own people pay tax....folks simply haven't done the math. Well, isn't this why the recent rule change was put into force? I don't know why you don't think TRD is not willing to go after them, they did change the rules didn't they? -

Any update on Paxlovid availability for foreigners in Bangkok?
That's an important point. You need to stop statins, such as Lipitor, while taking it or the side effects can be quite serious and there may be other common meds that clash with it. My brother-in-law was not allowed to take Paxlovid at all due to the cancer medication he was on and couldn't stop. He was given Molnupiravir instead. -

So the statins did exactly what they were expected to do? Do not live with elevated levels of cholesterol....the effects are symptomless until it is too late. -

Pakistani Tourist Robbed by Scam Artists During First Pattaya Visit
asking to see his country’s currency notes... ------------------------------------------------------------ Common low-tech scam often known in South and SE Asia. Don't show any money when the strangers ask you to show your country's currency. This is the travel safety advice given by many countries' embassies. Also better be alerted when a total stranger starts to behave too friendly to you while in unfamiliar places. -

5 year multiple entry DTV visa (Destination Thailand) from 2024-xx-xx
Haven't read the whole 45 pages but did the first 3-4 and then last 5. I have an Elite Visa from 7 years ago, it's still valid for another 13 years (5 years a pop) but I bought it when it was 1 million baht for 20 year (the absolutely NO fluff one) Before that, I used to be on 6 months multiple entry tourist visas which I would leave and come back last day of the six month to get an extra 2 months + 1 extension and then went home --which always cost me more thank 50k. The METVs for me were a ±3 weeks trip back home, a 4000 baht visa application and then waiting + risking getting declined. Would last me for 9 months and rinse/repeat. Just with applications and extensions fees they would be easily be ±13,000 THB a year including stupid trips to Myanmar border (4h drive) and 700 baht "fees" And then add the plane trip both ways which took 3 days each and an overnight train, always about 45-50k and give or take 8k for the train (and headaches that come with both) With Elite, I paid about 50,000 per year worth, it was worth it at the time.. not so much anymore as Elite prices have been raised quite a bit since then, it is now 5m for 20 years.. (250k a year), 2.5m for 15 years (166k a year), 1.5m for 10 years (150k a year) and 900k for 5 years (180k a year). Note, the numbers don't make sense, why would you want 20 years for 5 millions if you can get two 10 years for 3 millions? Obviously, paying 10k a 5 year stamp would be a better option for me (2000 baht a year) even if I did go outside say for a day every 6 months, might cost me total of 10k with some cheap trip and accommodations. So a lot of rambling maybe, but "cheap" elite cost me Total before, about 65k a year. lots of headache, chances to get declined at borders/visa applications. Total now, 51,900 per year (50k visa, 1900 baht extension yearly) but no headaches, online 90 days etc. DTV would cost me ±10k a year with two cheap flights/hotels once per 6m. So this means this is give or take 20% of the price I paid for Elite or 6.6% of the current price for a double 10 year Elite visa. (the most cost effective one) Easy win if you can make it work! -

5 Former Defence Secretaries Urge UK to Allow Ukraine to Use Long Range Missiles
Why? It is NOT your country to give away. The trouble with using nuclear weapons is that NOBODY on either side wins. If one side claims a win their country will be devastated and nobody will be able to live there for many decades. There will be no food, no uncontaminated water, no transport, no roads, no hospitals, in fact there will be nothing worth salvaging. There may be the odd pocket or 2 of survivors but the whole world will be affected. All the politicians etc in their hardened bunker will still be in power, but they will have power over nothing. I suspect that even Putin knows that. I also believe that all the militaries know that by firing the first nuclear, they are signing their own death warrants. -

Your liver makes the majority of the cholesterol, and sometimes, most, not the best. Why it's good to have a bit of fat & good cholesterol in you diet. Hopefully satisfy the need or countering the bad the liver is putting out. Also was on statin, and changed my diet, considerably, and now keto ish, cutting most carbs/starch version & sugars. Will test blood again near end of year, to make sure still in the normal / good ranges. Check APOB also, along with the the supposedly important HDL/Trig ratio. More important than total #s or even LDL # if a bit high, or so I'm reading from all the newer studies, debunking the BS we've been fed before about eating healthy and the silly food pyramid. A keto diet allows quite bit of variety. Carnivore diet a bit more meat heavy. Know I couldn't stick to a carnivore diet, so keto & intermittent fasting is working quite well for me. Keto food, below, that I actually eat & available here/TH. FULL LIST OF -

Da Nang Hotels?
Last November we stayed at Mandila Beach Hotel which was excellent value for money. Across the road on the beach there were plenty of food and drink options including a great craft brewery with restaurant called EastWest.
