There's a damned good reason why the First Amendment of the US Constitution protects freedom of expression. Without the right to say what you think, you lose the right to think what you want.

 

As evidenced by history and every dystopian novel ever written, speech and wrongthink are always the first targets of wannabe totalitarian governments. We have decades of authoritarians banning and changing the meanings of words, but that just isn't enough. 

 

The UK government are now in the process of making it illegal to pray silently within 150 metres of an abortion establishment. You can and will be criminalised for your thoughts.

 

Eventually of course we will return to normality whereby government fears the people, instead of the current inverse. Unfortunately and inevitably, it will require multiple civil wars. This will only occur when government heaps on that final straw.

 

That final straw will probably be something relatively innocuous, such as rationing beer consumption (I jest), but it will be something as equally and ludicrously authoritarian that breaks the camel's back.

 

We are currently in Orwell's dilemma, speaking of his 1984 proles, the commoner and mostly unthinking proletariat - "Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.”

They already fear the people, hence the militarisation of the police in the US. They know that if the populace ever rebels it'll be them or the people that survive.

Is the USA and the rest of the western world now engaging in a New Cultural Revolution where, just as in the 1960s in China, nobody is allowed to express ideas, or even to THINK ideas?

There are many on university campuses, including faculty in the most censor likely disciplines, who oppose the Mao-like imposition of thought/speech control. But not only do those just joining faculty need to fear the effects of their true feelings and thoughts on tenure but also on academic promotion and, yes, salary increases. Not to mention, the lockdown that comes on restricted research and analyses in the area of academic publications. The latter is the most important of all. It's how you get hired, get tenure, and get promoted. And the gatekeepers (peer reviewers) at the top tier publications are exceptional at sniffing out unorthodoxy and keeping it off their pages.

Sometimes less is more. My eyes started to glaze over about half way through that.

However, from what I did read, I have to agree.

Don't worry, eat drink womanise or whatever makes you happy, as western civilisation is IMO heading directly into the dumpster of history, and not a thing that you or I can do about it, except try and find some enjoyment as the great experiment in democracy comes to a shuddering halt in wokism, PC and BS writ large.

 

The saddest thing is that those that would have saved it, real men, have vanished. Now they are emasculated, beaten down, in thrall to womanhood, afraid to speak out, and generally neutered. I know as I was that way myself in my trade of nursing, unable to say what I thought as I knew my life would become a living hell if they had an inkling of my true thoughts. I had a few close shaves, and it wasn't pleasant at the time, and certainly put me off any more truth speak.

 

Even the woman I used to love became a woke monster from hell, which was why she became my ex.

When I was of an age to go to uni I would have lasted about 5 minutes before I said the wrong thing and my uni life ended.

I spent almost my entire school years in boys only schools without any female contact ( I guess I was just lucky there ), except for one female teacher, who might as well have been a man, and the office lady who was a goddess of beauty to be worshiped from afar, but never close up. After school came the male only bastion of the military, before women were permitted in other than the typing pool. The result was that I was naive and ignorant of the ways of women when I went nursing. It was a steep learning curve to survival. I guess I was lucky to get out reasonably unscathed; some did not and lived to regret their choice of career. However, scarred for life mentally.
