Pladao School in Mae Taeng district, Chiang Mai, has made Thailand proud by being ranked among the top three schools globally in the World’s Best School Prize for Innovation category.

During an open-house academic day at the school, students, teachers, and participants celebrated the achievement after receiving official recognition from T4 Education, a UK-based organisation. Vikas Pota, founder and CEO of T4 Education, confirmed that Pladao School has been selected as one of the top three finalists in the category of innovation, alongside schools from the UK and India. The winner will be announced on October 24, 2024.

In June, Pladao School was selected from over 1,000 schools in 80 countries and became one of the 10 finalists in the competition. Its recent advancement to the top three has further solidified its status as a leading institution in educational innovation.

The World’s Best School Prizes were established by T4 Education in collaboration with partners like Accenture, American Express, and the Lemann Foundation. The awards are considered the highest honor in global education.

Vikas Pota praised Pladao School, saying, "After making it to the top 10 in June, Pladao School has continued to rise through its unwavering dedication and commitment. The school has truly distinguished itself, not only in its community but also on a global scale through its creative approaches and outstanding achievements."

Pladao School, a private, non-profit institution under the Starfish Education Foundation, serves students from kindergarten to grade six, particularly those from ethnic minority groups. The school’s innovative approach to education includes the 3R innovation that helps students master reading, writing, and arithmetic, as well as project-based learning and Makerspace, which allows students to pursue their own interests and develop diverse skills.

Principal Mukda Kamwinitch attributed the school's success to its innovative methods, which have been adopted by over 500 schools across Thailand. She emphasised that modern education must go beyond academics to equip students with skills that help them adapt to a rapidly changing world.

The World’s Best School Prizes, launched in 2022 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, recognise schools in five categories: Community Collaboration, Environmental Action, Innovation, Overcoming Adversity, and Supporting Healthy Lives. They aim to showcase schools transforming education and share best practices worldwide.
