1happykamper Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 I moved into floral condo a short time ago. I know it's low season but this place now seems abandoned... perhaps everyone left town because of the flooding? I've seen very few residents here... those that have see walk around with earphones in... I think is the new way of say.. FO and leave me alone 555. I'm being serious! Some still wear masks! Give me a break.. Anyhooo... today a notice was pinned outside the office announcing that as of today... September 28 the "executive committee" has quit... But in Thai language it's states.. "Completed their term" Is there something going on here that I need to be aware of? I shower daily. 1

They'll have an AGM for room owners to vote in another committee, at least that's what we do at my condo. 2

Popular Post ChaiyaTH Posted September 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 29, 2024 CM became a crappy + quiet boring place if it comes to the expats and nightlife. Same with the super slow slow thinking and acting locals, if they think at all. It always shocks me when going to like Hanoi where it is completely packed and has this vibes that Thailand once had. The climate itself is also kind of a big mess: very long rain seasons, then the extreme hot months + after that the extreme pollution months. Essentially Chiang Mai is a horrible place to stay except for maybe 4 months a year. People I know still living here are looking to relocate or even leave depending on tax situations too. Many just switch between Vietnam, south of Thailand and 1-2 months up north aside of a visit trip back to their home countries. I'm personally ready to move out too but kind of waiting for these tax rules updates, kind of senseless to move domestic beforehand. 2 1 1 2

Very interesting and useful reply... It's served as a sanity check for my own thinking. Thanks. I used to lived in Chiang Mai 2015/16 and it's just not the same... Even adjusting for low season... It's too quiet here. I'm retired... But I still enjoy live music... Just a simple guy singing and a guitar...I enjoy a city buzz... Tough to find here. I did visit Vietnam twice this year... Da Nang and Hanoi.. and yes... it's all very busy there... I was never short on company to chat with... I'm single and live alone... In either city in Vietnam. Vietnamese have gotten more accepting to foreign tourists while Thai... and it's palpable... Have simply shunned me...even the women don't think I'm as handsome now 555.. Seriously.. 9 years ago... meetings a pretty Thai girl.. Outside of a bar life was easy.. Not now.. No way. I gave up on the idea of living in Vietnam because the housing quality wasn't good... No condos.. Only apartment buildings... Which meant no accountability for the building owners... hence the lousy interiors full of issues. Maybe I should return there with a different perspective now that I have experienced this "new Chiang Mai" Nothing stays the same.. But I'm not liking Thailands direction... Please feel free to DM me if you want to meet for a coffee or 5 tequilas. Mii pen rii 1 1 1

Tough to find her You got to be joking or you just don't know Chiang Mai very well, you can't even go to Central Festival without a concernt outside with a band, or a busker inside, there's tons of live music places in Chiang Mai. You can't even get into some cause they're so packed. most of the time. 1

Popular Post jippytum Posted September 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 29, 2024 condos are not as friendly as hotels or guesthouses who have mainly happy people pleased to be in Chaing Mai on holiday. As opposed to long term condo owners who dislike tennants. 2 1
Popular Post jippytum Posted September 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 29, 2024 Condos are maily empty in Chaing mai because it is difficult for owners to rent out for 12 months. Six months is the norm as people avoid the burning season that regularly see Chaing Mai quoted as the most polluted city in the world. Locations such as Pattaya and Phuket have near full occupancies due to the Russian infux. If your condo is Quiet be thankful. 2 2 1

I was an owner at Floral for many years and I rate it highly. The location and the management were extremely good. Khun Nok was always very serious about her job and keeping the place in good order, it will be a massive loss if she is no longer there although as of last month she was. 1
john donson Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I would love to live in an empty condo building
Sydebolle Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Get ready for a short-notice change. Either something COULD go on which you are not aware of or alternatively, wait for the haze season. I had a conde which I had to sell because I could not stand the haze. Since I sold it, the place got sold on another two times already in less than ten years. If a building is too empty and the sinking fund is depleted, elevators will no longer be serviced or work, public areas remain unattended - in short, there are some potential problems luring in an empty place - be warned!
crazykopite Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Since Toni reappeared from his extended holiday in Dubai and managed to avoid his Free B&B I have gotten the feeling that his feeling towards we foreigners are as before make life difficult for them and that’s why now I’m looking to live between two Asian countries where I can cut my pie in half and share it ! 1

Popular Post black tabby12345 Posted September 30, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 30, 2024 That could be China Impact. Until 2010s, Thailand was expecting the huge flux of Chinese buyers(to their property market). But in July 2017, their communist party started to restrict outbound flow of money. And in recent years, their own property market itself is now in crisis; Huge numbers of luxurious condos are left half-built. Many of them said to be started by the fund illegally borrowed. In China, local governments are not allowed to be involved in property speculation. But they made it possible by using dummy companies for cover-up. they pretended it was done by the private sector. 1 1 1

Popular Post Caldera Posted September 30, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 30, 2024 If you don't mind the horrible air quality, you can just as well live in Bangkok, without the boredom that Chiang Mai offers. I think it lost most of its appeal. 2 1

JimTripper Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 I don't think it's your particular condo. It's like that where I am and several other condo's I have seen. I almost never see other residents in the hallway and the rooms on my floor appear to be mostly empty. I think people just buy places and don't live there full time. Maybe Thai's see them as investments or try to rent them but they don't really rent out??? Lower end cheaper rooms (cinderblock type) seem to have more people living there full time. 1
