2000 steps...   as the 'pace' was measured at the time from 'left foot returning to the left foot' (i.e. two of our normal steps) - Mille Passus (1000 paces).

Be nice if they did the same.... police escorting tourist coaches on M7... travelling 80km/h in the RH lane.

Investigation launched into police supercar escort on M6 motorway

The head of the Central Investigation Bureau called for an inquiry into motorway police impeding regular traffic to expedite the journey of a billion-baht convoy of luxury vehicles and supercars along an inter-city motorway.

Today, October 7, Police Lieutenant General Jirabhop Bhuridej announced that he had instructed Motorway Police to look into grievances from motorists. These complaints alleged that police motorcyclists had cleared the path for a fleet of luxury cars on the M6 motorway from Ayutthaya to Nakhon Ratchasima on Saturday.

The commissioner stated that the officers in question would face consequences if they were found to have acted improperly.

Reports suggest that the luxury car convoy was en route to Nakhon Ratchasima to feature as a main attraction at a vegetarian and cultural event in the area.

An unnamed source revealed that motorway police escorted the convoy without prior notification to their superiors.

In Nakhon Ratchasima on Saturday evening, 45 luxury cars valued at approximately 1.5 billion baht were exhibited at the vegetarian fair near the Thao Suranari Monument in Mueang district. The fair commenced on Friday and concluded on Sunday night.

After he receives his brown envelope, the investigation will be completed and will find that no malfeasance was involved..

Yikes. I hate these convoys with flashing lights, high end cars, with police/military escorts dominating the roads , supposedly transporting shameless VIP's. Are todays VIP's such morons that they consider themselves way above the normal citizens? - most of these existing on the tax payers money!

It is disgusting, wherever it's happening on this planet!

That's a good question. I guess it is because in mph, m does not mean metre and mph predates the introduction of the International System of Units, which anyway some countries have not adopted as the mandatory system or, as in the UK, adopted it with a few specific exceptions, but we are talking about road signs in Thailand in this topic, I believe.

Fortunately, though, it does not happen often that a space rocket explodes in flight because an engineer mixed up inches and centimetres. I have read about only one such incident so far, in the USA. I wish I could find that news article again.

Are you thinking about time there was a mix up between liters and gallons when refueling an aircraft and the aircraft ran out of fuel in flight?   If that is what you were thinking about, that was in Canada.  If not, I don't know.

They are paying way more tax than you so wait your turn.

One would hope so but not necessarily true.

As you mentioned about the aircraft that ran out of fuel in flight, I am posting an interesting video below - Mods please move if this is not acceptable on this thread. Thank you.

When I were a lad, there was a fad in the UK for "replicars", kit cars made to look like supercars. These were invariably based on VW Beetle running-gear.

It looks like a Ferrari, sadly it sounds like a Beetle, even with a flashy exhaust it's impossible to disguise the sound of a Beetle flat-four :whistling:

EDIT I forgot to add that, of course, these things didn't go any faster than a Beetle either!

Was that when the Beetle was an exciting new import from Germany?  😃

Mid-late 70s, so end-of-life (rust) Beetles with good running-gear were cheap-as-chips.

Several co-apprentices built Beetle-based beach-buggies. I was a hairy biker with a pony-tail and zero interest in cars, until I discovered that not all girls liked the ton-up out in the wind and rain :whistling:

I fail to see the connection between sports cars , vegetarians or culture

Of course they are above normal citizens, that's why they are called "vip's"  and that's why they get police escorts.  Don't believe me ?  well  I'm guessing you consider yourself a normal citizen, go and request a police escort and see what happens

Funny I was following a young girl in an old Beetle today. I say young as a 70 year old.

I think the Beetle engine was in a fairly low state of tune which made it ideal if you wanted to squeeze more power out of it.
