Expanding on the point about what happens if Trump loses but manages to take power anyway, I think the mainstream assumption is that he will fail in doing that. HOPEFULLY SO!

But even with failing there will be lots of unrest the details of which are impossible to predict.

But the black hole question for me is what if he succeeds?

Surely there would be some kind of resistance movement to fight that even after he takes power.

Yes he would deploy the national guard even the military to arrest such people (remember what happened in Turkiye?) but would it really be so easy to put that down?

Do bear in mind that all this Supreme Court to-do about the privileges of the president would also cover the one currently serving.

If DT loses but puts up a fight I'd like to see Biden make use of the privileges SCOTUS has been coming up with for their orange-faced hero.  Reference the SCOTUS discussion about the president being able to have Navy Seals kill his political enemy.   Biden is out after the inauguration, he has nothing to lose, and by the time they bring him to court (at least two years) old Joe's health may render him unfit to stand trial.  And if DT pulls his shenanigans again, and gets foiled, then comes his trial (however many years later), and HE may be the one that's unfit;.

Interesting topic about Navy Seals but it wouldn't be prudent at this time to comment about it.

Didn't mean to imply going that far, maybe more like locking him up unconditionally as a threat to the stability of the country, along with the whole deck of jokers that guide and abet him.  That stuff about knowingly giving bad information to people in distress, causing death and loss, would be a small first step,

Keep the jet fueled and ready, Eric.

That says it all.

When was the Electoral College created?

The Electoral College was proposed during the Constitutional Convention of 1787.

I understand that the US armed forces swear their oath of allegiance to the US Constitution, not to the President, sitting or prospective, nor to any Supreme Court fiddling with the edges of the Constitution.

Be prepared for this folks:

We can be certain that there will be an absolute torrent of attempts to overturn any defeat for Trump - as described in this clip.

It will not be over "until the fat lady stops singing" or until in this case, "the fat man stops whining"!

Trump will win. The left will burn cities

Trump's inauguration in January, 2017 was uneventful - aside from disputes about the crowd size.  The antifa riots didn't begin until the "Unite the Right Rally" the following August.  I suspect that the 2025 Inauguration will be met with fairly quiet dread and disbelief.
