Michelle Obama perfectly articulates the case in favor of Kamala Harris and against Donald Trump in this speech delivered today in Kalamazoo, MI. Given that Kalamazoo is located in a pretty rural part of Michigan,  the enthusiasm levels of the rally crowd should give Trump supporters pause, i.e., send a chill up their spines.

I certainly hope these polls do not predict the real outcomes. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to have Trump become president again. I just can't understand how so many of my fellow US citizens could consider backing a man like that. Even if Trump loses, it will probably be that 45% or more of registered voters voted for him. Despicable!

What I find even more astounding is the number of European forum members who so vocally support Trump. Obviously the attraction is to Trump's nativist and anti-immigrant rhetoric. But that they can so blithely ignore his autocratic tendencies, his ambivalent attitude towards NATO, and his admiration for Putin is simply unbelievable. Have they ever stopped to consider who would come to Europe's rescue were Putin to continue his westward incursions beyond Ukraine? Do they not realize that had it not been for America's efforts during WWII, most of them would probably be speaking either German or Russian today? The sad lack of historical perspective is both shocking and saddening.

I'm a far-left liberal, and I didn't vote for Trump. I am not, however, in support of genital mutilation of children (circumcision?), segregation, racial preferences, and anti-Semitism. I am in favor of anti-Americanism if that means being against most of the features that Trump and his supporters consider "American values," like Christian nationalism, capitalism, anti-immigrant, and White supremacy.

No, you can have a socialist economy with several different kinds of government. Authoritarianism would be possible but the least likely. The most likely would be a democracy.

No, none of these have a socialist or communist economy. They all practice capitalism. Some, like the USA, do have a mix of capitalism and socialism, but none has true socialism. But yes, all on the list do have, IMO, an authoritarian government. We in the USA have what I would call a plutocracy disguised as a democratic republic.

But who is advocating socialism beyond the economic idea of maybe tax the very rich a bit more - something that won't affect most voters including I assume yourself - and providing a few more services to the rest. Maybe the odd social policy that are mostly non controversial. So how does that require authoritarianism. If your talking about a more formal definition of socialism than it's irrelevant as neither party is advocating for it.

Taxing the rich their fair share is "socialism" for the MAGA types.

 

Why do the Trumpers love billionaires? Because they think some of that money will trickle down to them. But they can't admit that. So, if you ask them why they don't want billionaires taxed more, they will change the subject.
