Home delivery of alcohol

Featured Replies

Is home delivery of alcohol legal in Thailand?     There are at least 2 companies in Bangkok who advertise home delivery of whisky.      Is this a scam?

Home delivery of alcoholic beverages is legal and and advertising this service is not a scam.

The large supermarkets (Tops at Central etc) where I live, usually do not do home delivery of alcohol.

I have been told that this is because of the uncertainty of the 'no alcohol to be sold between 14:00 and 17:00' law. ie when was it 'logged' on the till receipt.

However, lots of smaller companies here will deliver alcohol.

Mind you, many also sell all day, every day. :whistling:

You can try "French Wine Thailand".....I placed an order for 10k, but they refused delivery unless I paid upfront.....which I'm not prepared to do........

Otherwise a decent choice of wines/spirits/beers...so if you are happy to pay upfront try them....free delivery over 8k.

I get a delivery every month, Not illegal AFAIK.

Place I buy from deliver to bars and clubs.

I get wine delivered all the time (12-24 bottles).....  No issues whatsoever.

My local D-Save delivers, had 2 boxes of beer delivered today......most bars get it delivered also, but of course that depends on what you want, don't expect any specialist drinks.

Can I bump this with similar question.

We have a 7/11 across the road.

Really helpful staff.

So the Thai partner would ring them and place order (before 2pm) and pay online.

The 7/11 a little bit later would deliver boxes to front door.

Brilliant.

Now they just informed her...need to come to shop in person and pay and leave with purchase. They do assist trolley across road

So finally my question: does anyone have suggestion for delivery.

We get bulk water delivery etc but the issue is with alcohol.

In the past when having parties etc...   We've taken the 'informal route' of using Grab...

..  Getting them to pick up a load of booze, and then deliver it.

They'll ride around (or usually already know of a place) where they can circumnavigate the 2-5pm rule...

That said, after midnight - I've never tried...

Where are you ?

There are solutions everywhere when digging, someone will know someone...

Even if you get the 'contact' (i.e. Line) of a local Mom and Pop shop and see if they can deal with direct delivery on an informal basis.

Or... Just going back to the 'Grab' Guys (if you have them nearby).

It was made illegal in 2021 but some companies have been doing it ever since without incident. Only supermarkets aren't allowed to do it anymore (which is stupid but that's Thailand for you).

Thanks for the reply.

The tgf and I just chit chat.

There is mar/par couple doors up which is option. Just drop the fancy beer and get basics from them.

Good friends with that shop so it's an option. Also no 2-5pm rubbish

I'm central Bangkok.

I get alcohol delivered on the rare occasions I buy it online...but there are only a handful of merchants which will deliver. Supermarkets used to but stopped in 2021 after Prayuth changed the law.

In that case - Wine Pro for Wine...   Thought I'm not sure 'they' do Instant delivery, Grab can pick up for you etc...

(though I wouldn't want 8000 bahts worth of wine on a Grab bike - best to leave delivery of that to their responsibility)

We've found solutions loads of times - but its usually when running an empty fridge at 10pm etc..

We've even hit up a WineConnection in the past - put in an order and they used Grab to deliver.

So true.

I love Thailand and bit critical of folk complaining.

However seriously...in Oz I can order online and for modest total amount $ can have home delivery.

Yep... I think more to the point of Jacks question is..

... "Oh shoot...  we're getting low on 'Midori'...  how will I keep up with the demand for 'fuzzy navels ?....    which local shop can I hit up for delivery... ??....."

Wishbeer, but they won't do same day deliveries except for downtown areas of Bangkok. For outlying areas and upcountry, expect a minimum 2 day wait.

I used Wishbeer during Covid after Villa Market and Tops were banned from doing deliveries because the Junta believed drinking beer and wine at home would "spread Covid".

Order a pack of chips from bigC on grab. When you’re assigned a driver, call or message him/her and ask them to pick up what you want, pay cash and give a good tip.

That means the driver has to pay upfront, they may not be willing to do do that, but worth a try I guess. Or you can send them the money first, but for a large order, you are the one running the risk of them disappearing with the money and you will have no recourse because you're not supposed to use Grab for alcohol.

Go to your preferred local wholesale beverage shop, ask them if they do delivery (they do), add them on Line and place your subsequent orders on there.
