Labour Government’s Bold Claim to “honesty with voters” Has Unraveled Quickly

IMO the Labour Budget was ok - seeking to balance planned current expenditure with current income. As I understand it, extra borrowing will be to finance capital projects which makes reasonable sense.

The UK and many Western Nations do though, have an ongoing problem with National Debt and the cost of servicing it. It's not helpful to whinge. We should bear in mind that each human in the UK has, on average, a standard of living that has been indulged, historically, to the tune of £40,000, (that's per man, woman and child), so there'll be lots more pain to come one day whichever Govt. has the misfortune to be in power.

As for Reeves efforts, well if anything, it's a bit timid . . .  no attempt to address the 'triple lock', (which has to go asap) and no attempt to tackle the murderous future ongoing costs of gold plated Public Service pensions. Putting Stamp Duty on 2nd homes up from 3% to 5% is a paltry effort. A 25% rate would have shown some intent !

Seems like Labour were lying about a £22 Billion black hole .

Reason being that they could blame Tories for everything .

"Seems like Labour were lying about a £22 Billion black hole" . They lie about everything else so why not the £2 Billion black hole

That last is the second best thing to do.

The best thing to do is learn Afghani  , go to France , throw away your passport etc then come back in a rubber boat and claim asylum.

Go on then. Do it.

You'll then find out how it all actually works. It might even stop you making idiotic comments.

Only uneducated idiots voted for labour, those with intelligence knew exactly who they were, their experience and what would happen.

Same happened in the US with the idiots Biden and Harris. The left cannot run a country. Can but hope the right gets itself kicked out and liebour are a one term disaster

Data shows exactly the opposite of your claim.

The 'left-wing' U.S. has been leading by far for post-Covid recovery, while the right-wing UK has been trailing other G7 countries (except Germany, for readons we know)

Well done Labour.  Well done.   Economically illiterate morons.

Isn't that what so many of you demand for Thai baht? And how good it would be if it fell, increased competitiveness, more tourism and all that yadayadayada... So, following this logic, labour government is a God-sent to UK to save its economy and make life easier for the expats there!

You expect?

Well, have Labour launched an investigation yet ito Covid financial irregularities .

I would personally like to find out whether there was a connection between the Covid quarantine hotels and the people who made that rule, whether any Government officials profited out of it

1. Thailand economy != UK economy.   It relies on tourism so would benefit from a weaker baht.

2. This thread is about UK budget, not Thailand.

3. When the pound last tanked and the gilts rose following Liz Truss budget leftists here had a meltdown over it.  They seem to be more relaxed about the same thing happening here.

Taxes have not gone up for working people.

Funding to the NHS has gone up dramatically, as promised.

Funding to schools has gone up.

Unless you are earning considerably more than the national average your taxes have not increased.

Funding to schools has gone up.

Some parents disagree and are now suing the government.

The group says its legal claimants will be parents who argue they cannot find an alternative education for their children in the state sector, and are likely to include families with children with special educational needs.

Chief Executive Julie Robinson says they “will be defending the rights of families who have chosen independent education, but who may no longer be able to do so as a direct result of VAT on their fees”.

“We continue to ask the government to work with us to mitigate the risks of this policy on specialist arts education, on low-fee faith schools, on small girls’ schools and on children with Send.”

The current "fall" is peanuts, compared to the post-referendum fall!
