How does the driver cancel the charge in Bolt?

Doesn't that just give you a free ride?

I don't know, but they do it somehow. I think that they tell to the company about traffic jam, or customer not in the place and have to wait for him.

Take it up with Bolt, I think there is a report function in the app somewhere.

Yesterday I ordered a Bolt and at the end of the trip they cancelled the charge and charged me three times as much. I called Bolt and they immediately cancelled the extra charge.

Today my wife and I each took a Bolt: one to the bus station and the other to the apartment. Both drivers applied the extra charge.

I called Bolt again but they say they have to check it and it's been several hours.

In all cases it was with the Bolt -> Taxi option

Previously, Bolt drivers din't accept passengers who pay by card because it seems the company takes more than a month to pay them for the service; now it seems they have discovered a new, more profitable trick.

3 times in a row in two days:

I order a Bolt, accept the fare shown, pay with my card, and when the service is over the driver cancels the charge and charges me a new one for TRIPLE or more of the initial fare.

I will not pay with the card again and from now on I will only pay in cash.

Are you using Bolt Taxis or another option?

The app indicates some cases where additional fees apply so does your receipt show anything unexpected or just a total price?

They show only the total price of the taxi fare plus 20 baht commision for Bolt.

When you enter the option to claim the service, you are warned that the price may change if:

- There is traffic on the route
- Tolls had to be paid
- I made additional stops during the trip
- I changed the destination in the middle of the journey
- The driver changed the route

I suppose that drivers report some of these incidents and the company charges an extra fee. Which in all cases is approximately three times as much.

They would be itemised on the emailed receipt if that was what was happening, according to the app.

As you say, pay cash. They have found a way to game the software and will do so! I hope bolt get on top of this cheating... which is what it is. Were these regular cars, or taxis using Bolt?

Taxis using Bolt.

So now we need to avoid Bolt->Taxi and use Bolt->Economy instead. And always pay cash.

Yes indeed. I must admit to never having used that option..... did  not understand the details and now understand they do not fit my usage patterns. My pre Bolt experiences with taxis did for me in that respect.

Why would you want to pay a 60 Baht taxi fare with a card anyway? This is Thailand, cash is still king.

It's more convenient to me because I don't need to handle cash and withdraw money from ATM continuously.

In Europe I always pay card and this is my default option in Bolt.

Indeed, I will pay cash in the future and will never select again the Bolt->Taxi option.

No. If I book again the same trip, they still maintain the original rate.

About the original trip in Bolt, they display as cancelled and made a new trip 30 minutes later at the new rate, as shown in my previous post.

Haha, you don't need to do it continuously... just do it once a week and withdraw sufficient for your needs!😁

In the Bolt -> Taxi service, regardless of the rate offered, and despite having already paid for it, the taxi driver will turn on the taximeter and at the end of the service the payment made will be cancelled and I will be billed for what the taximeter shows.

This is how Grab Taxi works as well. They provide a fare estimate at the beginning, but what you eventually pay is the metered fare plus the Grab service charge. If you use cars rather than taxis on either app, there's a set fare.

For that I don't need to hire Bolt's services, I just have to get into any taxi, pay whatever the taximeter says and that's it.

You're paying Bolt to send a taxi to your door to pick you up, so that you don't have to go out on the street and find a cab (and possibly argue about the destination).

And most certainly argue about the fare or meter use!

Pay cash simple, I'd like to see any scamming Bolt driver try to get 1 Satang extra from my Issan lady friend. Crash, Bang, Wallop, springs to mind 🤣😂🤣

Must be only you ,I never had this in over 300 rides ,of course I select Bolt Economy or Bolt standard NOT Bolt Taxi

Why would you select the Taxi option ?

Not the smartest fish in the tank

I have never truly understood how this Bolt Taxi fee calculation works. I have booked Bolt Taxi option a number of times and it usually shows some fee range, e.g. 190-290 baht. Then taxis actually never switch on the meter and every single time I have ended up paying the highest quoted fee, i.e. 290 Baht in the example. Does not seem to matter if there is more or less traffic and there is no explanation on how the calculation is supposed to work in the app itself.
