Group Petitions Court to Revoke Thai Cabinet's Citizenship Grant to Foreigners

On 1 November at 1:00 p.m., at the Administrative Court, Songchai Niamhom, President of the People’s Network for Institutional Protection (PNIP), filed a formal petition with Prasit Sak Mee Lap, President of the Supreme Administrative Court.

 

The petition seeks to annul a recent Thai Cabinet decision led by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. On 29 October, the Cabinet approved a framework proposed by the National Security Council (NSC) to expedite nationality status for long-term migrants and those born in Thailand, affecting 483,626 individuals.

 

PNIP argues that this decision is unconstitutional, violating both the Thai Constitution and the Immigration Act, with potential risks to national security, racial and cultural integrity, and overall social stability.

 

Songchai emphasised that the policy could disrupt the livelihoods of Thai citizens and strain the country’s economic and social systems.

 

The PNIP urges the Supreme Administrative Court to promptly overturn the Cabinet’s resolution to uphold Thailand’s sovereignty.

 

The group also requests that enforcement of the Cabinet’s directive be suspended until a final court decision is reached, reported Siam Rath.

Pheu Thai were once known as Thai Rak Thai which doesn't suggest any love for foreigners, so this move could be cynically intended as a 483,626 vote grabber.

That said, those stateless adults and children, stymied for life by accident of birth, surely deserve to be able to fully participate in Thai life. 

Just a shame it couldn't be proposed by the People's Party along with Pheu Thai.

Why?  Thailand is pretty much owned and run by the descendants of Chinese who came here many, many years ago.  The Siamese allowed them to not only gain citizenship but gave them control of the country.  Why all this xenophobia now?

Many Thais that moved abroad mainly for marriage gain PR status and are quite happy to do so. If their children are born abroad most countries recognise this and they can easily apply for PR, Its about time Thailand moved on from the last century and had some reciprocal laws without the interference of small minded individuals with overly nationalistic views !!!

A lot of "Westerners" really have NO idea just how racist a LOT Of Asian countries really are.

Our countries bend over backwards and stab ourselves in the back to try and do any and everything we can to go the other way and be as "un-racist" to everyone as we can, even while they laugh at us and happily take advantage of it.

Then you live in a Middle Eastern, African or Asian country for awhile and see how THEY treat minorities and other races.
And THEY have NO shame about it. No recrimination. No "labelling" or  "cancelling".

Because they really don't give a toss what anyone else thinks about it and if you don't like it - leave.

"...Maintain racial integrity...." lol people in S E Asia are such a genetically diverse bunch of people that any suggestion of Thailand having some form of unique racial integrity is utter fantasy. Indian, Chinese, Malay, Khmer, European etc...the Thai gene pool has it all. In fact maybe it could even be a genetic hub in the future.   

 

In fact I bet old Somchai and Meechai holding their petitions  are genetically impure by their own standards where they to ever undergo genetic testing.

Yes, and what a lot of 'Westerners' don't understand is that - despite their prejudices on the subject - it is in the broad the very BEST of Third World people who migrate to The West - the educated or who want to be, the hard-working and willing, those who dream of freedom & equality. Why else would they risk their lives in little boats to get to the UK or Oz? why else would they put up with racism and general nastiness so their children may become full citizens of their new society?

Look at the worst racists around you in any European country for instance. Quite often they are 2nd or 3rd generation of immigrants whose parents were doing low status badly paid jobs to manage. Then once they get their citizenship, they want to feel integrated by discriminating others comming from precisely where they are also from.

 

Look at those white supremacists ranting against skin colour, yet very often they have wives who are oriental or dark skinned.

 

A bit like in Thailand with some of those sour and bitter falangs ranting against other foreigners. Little knowing that for the thai's all foreigners are put in the same bucket, no matter what some may try to convince themselves of the opposite.

I agree strongly with the overall sentiment in replies here, that these specific Thai people should be ashamed of themselves.

Of course the best way to stop this happening is for the protestors to form a political party, stand in every constituency, win an overall majority of the seats and form a new government.

Why these people oppose the new brilliant proposal?

In terms of national security, it is far worse to leave many of the long serving migrant workers (making a great contribution to Thai economy as the essential workforce) illegal despite their positive inputs.

Racists exist anywhere.

They often don't evaluate others on the basis of personal qualities: Ability, contribution, and characters.

Instead, judging people by the unchangeable factors such as the place of origin, former nationality like stuff.

I felt your one-line post quite stupid.

I simply mentioned Thailand is made up of many different faces and colors.

And you started to condemn me saying  as if I am ignorant.

 

I have been here nearly 20 years.

I know  they often value whiter skin than the darker.

But at least, their racism  doesn't come with physical violence unlike in the west.

They don't swear or hit others just because  the strangers got different faces or colors.

Since 2020 Coronavirus scare, Youtube has been  full of videos covering anti-Asian violence taking place in  the North America and Europe.

But that sort of phenomenon is not heard here.

If you are really upset with Racism, better voice your concern  somewhere else instead.
