In the early hours of November 2, a foreign motorcyclist crashed through a police checkpoint in Pattaya, seriously injuring a traffic officer before fleeing into nearby forest and eventually attempting to evade capture by hiding in the sea.

The incident occurred around 02:05 at an alcohol checkpoint on Jomtien Second Road in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung District. Police Lieutenant Colonel Sirichat Nuteas, Deputy Chief of the Pattaya City Police Station, reported that the foreign national ignored the checkpoint’s barriers, speeding through and striking Police Sub-Lieutenant Rapeepat Phrommin, who was stationed there. The impact threw Officer Rapeepat to the ground, leaving him with a severe head injury and lying in a pool of blood. Rescue teams quickly arrived, provided first aid and rushed him to the hospital.

Following the collision, the foreign motorcyclist abandoned his Honda CB650 motorcycle and escaped on foot into a thicket beside the road. Police units, including more than 50 officers from the Pattaya City Police, quickly mobilised to surround the area. Officers deployed motorcycle patrols and plainclothes detectives to positions where the suspect was expected to flee.

After an extensive search, the foreign man was spotted emerging from the forest and moving towards the water at Jomtien Beach. He entered the sea, attempting to escape, however, officers who had a clear description of the suspect were able to recognise him, and they waited until he returned to shore before detaining him. The man initially denied involvement and resisted an alcohol test at the Dongtan Substation of Pattaya Police.

Police investigators are examining the motorcycle’s registration and rental records to verify the identity of the foreign suspect. Surveillance footage from the checkpoint clearly captured the incident, which will serve as evidence in the legal proceedings.

According to Santi Phunnoi, a rescue volunteer with Sawang Boriboon Pattaya, the suspect approached the checkpoint at high speed, swerving around cones and crashing directly into the officer before fleeing into the forest.

A quick arrest.  Who new there were 50 officers in Pattaya police force?

The number probably looks more when they can get them to stand up.

Why is it non of these surveillance videos ever surface about these checkpoints(collection points). If someone asks to use as evidence the had to pay a bribe, there is never any cameras working at the time. Or so it seems.

The commotion woke me up.  I live in a 10th floor condo, the balcony of which overlooks the wooded area, next to Villa Navin.  There was a pool party going on at one of the villas so at first I thought the noise was from that but the shouting between police officers didn't seem like party noise.  Really dense vegetation in that lot which extends from 2nd Rd to Beach Rd, bordered by Villa Navin on the South side, Soi-9 on the North.  I can see how it would be very hard to find a person in there.  Nothing worth a video.  Couldn't really see anything but flashlights.

That check-point has been going-on for the last month, usually Thursday to Sunday, around midnight to 2:30AM.  The difference in motorcycle and motorbike noise is dramatic.  Usually a lot of bikes screaming up and down both sides but when cops are there, quiet like the covid days.

It's important to get there quickly if you want to get you picture on the national news.

Not that detailed.

I doubt that anyone will be popping over with a bottle of wine intent on sharing a candle light supper eating from Royal Doulton with hand-painted periwinkles.

He certainly does not fit the profile. No cheap and tacky tats, he looks to be in decent shape, and might even wax.

Appears to be  somewhat short, so definitely not Dutch. 😄

Man is a true idiot though for thinking he could swim away. Now he will be in prison in his wet and soggy clothes and it's going to get worse because he will stay that way for some time.

I notice unsurprisingly you choose to ignore the fact the police had set up a road block and were checking for drunk driving etc.

Doesn't suit your boring daily narrative does it ?

Of course police do have to work sometime.  Mainly it is smoke and mirrors; to fool the gullible into thinking they are the bulwark against crime.  (It seems to have worked in your case.)  How many drunks are caught; how many pay their 'fines' on the spot?  How many Mercedes are allowed through with a salute?

It's not just me.  Check above how many other contributors are not wearing rose-coloured spectacles.
