Panel Investigates Thaksin's Lengthy Hospital Stay

The latest development in former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's detention saga is attracting attention as a House committee conducts a thorough investigation into allegations of special treatment during his hospital stay.

 

This week, the committee on state security and related affairs, led by Rangsiman Rome, will convene to probe the assertions. This move comes in response to a National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) report, which casts doubt on the legalities governing inmate medical transfers.

 

According to the NHRC report, the regulation warrants reform, highlighting its capacity for misuse. Initially penned by then Justice Minister Somsak Thepsutin, the rule facilitates inmate transfers without stringent oversight, leveraging the discretion of the Corrections Department.

 

Thaksin's case typifies this concern, as his release for medical reasons extended beyond the standard 120 days, raising eyebrows about the preferential assessment conducted by ex-corrections officials.

 

Adding to the scrutiny, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is also delving into the matter. Thaksin's return to Thailand in August 2022, following a 15-year self-exile, led to him being sentenced to prison for eight years initially, later lowered to one year.

 

His admission to the Police General Hospital followed his report to the Supreme Court and subsequent transfer due to allegedly serious health conditions.

 

This background paints a broader picture of perceived inequities within justice administration, pushing calls for system reform.

 

Expected to give testimony at the committee meeting are key figures involved in this case, including high-ranking police officers and medical officials, aimed at ensuring clarity and transparency around Thaksin's hospitalisation period.

 

The committee's findings could be pivotal to shaping reform and ensuring equal treatment within the justice system, reported Bangkok Post.

What a load of nonsense, Thaksin was on deaths door when he arrived back in Thailand and without his extended stay in hospital under very skilful attention by some of the top medical professionals in Thailand he wouldn't have made such a rapid and miraculous recover. 

Of course this could be incorrect and he was actually fit and healthy and just playing the sick card to avoid being locked up with other crims. 

 

But don't worry, this througher investigation will spin lots of wheels and come to the pre ordained conclusion - all was above board and in  order.

Come on... We all know they continue to make new panels and new investigations to see how many envelopes turn up. I am most certain there will be several more pointless investigations into this in the future.

That was only the recovery period following his resurrection from deaths door.

There is an easy solution. Time is hospital is not time in jail - for any inmate.

If he was 100 days is hospital then put him 100 days more into jail.

And if he is sick again, then stop counting and start counting again only when he is in a jail cell.

Conclusion: He didn't finish his jail sentence yet. Put him back where he belongs.

Of course he got special treatment. That´s nothing to hide, and I don´t know why they are trying. Better focus on the main problem. Everyone with money in Thailand gets a free lunch disregarding what they have done.

It will be impossible to find the truth.. there is too much money involved and too many lies.. The only real thing that can be done is checking everyone involved and their assets and money... as always follow the money, but the panel will be probably find nothing and the truth will stay hidden... Unless the panel has a lot of money to spend

 I hope i'm wrong but i don't think for a moment any findings will damage Thaksin in any way. 

Teflon Thaksin's imunity to justice is sickening.

No visits at the hospital because of his critical condition, was he ever there?

Finally allowed home wearing a neck brace and arm sling, which soon came off as he headed north to CM to fine dine with Government officials, a miraculous recovery indeed.

Yea So what, No mentioning about putting Thaksin in jail to serve his 1 year sentence.

That should be the minimum jail time for him for  all the trouble he caused the country.

Good night before he came back he was partying with the neighboring dictator and dancing and everything then within a few hours after he comes back he’s so sick he has to be flown by a chopper to the hospital we remained for a long time everybody knows it was a joke amazing Thailand corruption top to bottom nothing changes here TIT

👮‍♂️ "Nothing to see here.  Move along.  Just an old man who was a convict but who was terribly sick, very very sick, so sick that out of Thai compassion the government gave him a private penthouse suite in the hospital - you know - like they do for all very very sick convicted inmates.  And then his miraculous recovery after his early release without serving a day in a real prison.  Buddha be praised - A true miracle!!!"

...exactly, + he was in UAE getting the bestest of everything; so why didn't he wait until he was given a clean bill of health and return to his homeland with his head held high..all he has done is make himself look stupid and pathetic..IMO

+ if you look close you will see the soft neck brace is over-sized and not worn correctly as is the arm-sling he wore, poorly adjusted with his forearm more or less flopping about and not elevated diagonally across his puny chest..and of course all the rapid adjustments by his minders as he approached the cameras..but by then a few astute camera guys had the moving images.

I don't disagree with your opinion on Thaksin OMF, as unlike me you were here in Thailand during the whole length of his premiership and he was no friend of the retiree's, but, and this is only an opinion, the unelected leader  of an illegal coup was much worse, and at least Thaksin was democratically elected.
