Here's an update for those who are interested:

Speaks so slow and slurred and doesn't say much .

Claims to be broke and also spends all night working with clients in the USA .

Does he work for free ?

You need credit, references and job history to rent a place in the USA. You don't just walk in and pay like you do in asia. A bunch of paperwork is submitted and they scrutinize every detail and call to verify.

Without that coveted high credit score you can't get a place even if you could afford it (which he probably can't). If he is complaining about Asia he can't afford to get settled in the USA. He needs a base shelter to apply for jobs (hard to live under a bridge while looking for a job).

You sound like a man speaking from experience.

An old web designer friend of mine had to leave Bangkok back in 2016 because he was running low on funds and it was getting harder and harder to top up the 800k he kept in a Thai account for his annual retirement extension.

Ended moving to Cambodia where he recreated his routine of doing poorly-paid odd 'n' sods to fund his ridiculous 7pm - 7am barfly lifestyle.

Poor sod ended up dying of cirrhosis in a run down room above a bar in Phnom Penh.
A mutual friend who'd gone to visit him before he passed said he'd expressed serious interest in returning to England to get medical help.

That's usually what happens, people end up in Cambodia in those run down awful guesthouse rooms.

Was it the Walkabout bar by any chance?

I hear stories like that and think so what, so poor people in the west don't end up similarly miserable and probably usually much worse. At least he had a roof over his head!

It's weirder in Cambodia because all hope is lost. Not being around even other homeless people that speak English is much more isolating then being destitute in your home country. There is also a meth problem in Cambodia so he was likely living with addicts who were shooting up. Some of the rooms are like shooting galleries with bloody swabs and rags just left on the floor.

We call them "deathpats". It's expats that wash up there to die. Refusing to go home, or can't get themselves together to actually return. They end up as alcoholics or drug addicts, and victims of hookers and pimps or just other people around that can see they are going downhill that rob them of everything when they are high or wasted. It happens in those really cheap rooms where nobody cares.

I hear what you're saying but personally I can't imagine anything worse than being homeless.

I see videos of old people living in cars in the U.S. saying they have 1000 social security and I think, you know there are places you could legally move to abroad where you'd have a nice apartment and be able to eat out every day.

I doubt he was in a nice apt. Sounds like he hit rock bottom in one of those addict guesthouses I saw there. Small cheap decent rooms are another story and are Ok.

OK.

But I'm sure for a non addict 1000 a month is very doable for quite a decent existence in Siam Reap or Campot. If someone is some kind of addict, that transcends borders as well.

Why can people not answer a simple question without turning it into an unwarented drama?Which currency is it?

PS;  BTW What do you mean by "Oh no not one of those."?

Don't bother respoding as I have lost what little interest I ever had in the topic or your idiotic responses!

Being broke in a foreign country is a one-way ticket to hell.

He needs a job, and I don't mean posting begging videos on YouTube.

He should go to Norway and commit a crime.

The  prisons in Norway sound pretty cozy to me.
