Brothels are illegal but not prostitution.  Get your facts right!

"Although it’s a misconception that prostitution is legalized in Thailand due to popular perception and how openly it is promoted, Thai laws are very much against it. Neither prostitution nor solicitation is legal in Thailand, and there are serious consequences for taking part in it. "

Her mother died when she was young.

When she was about 10, she went to work far away from her village with her father and his new wife.

Not long after that she run away, alone, to see some other relative about 1000km away from where she was. There she worked in a coffee shop until she was 16. And then her older stepsister decided it's time to bring her to Pattaya.

When I met her and asked her to live with me, she was happy to go with me to Bangkok far away from the family.

I promised her to take care of her and that is what I did and do.

And all that happened many years ago. We are still together and mostly happy.

Unfraternally, I saw too many daughters with too little care from the family. Sometimes the family has no money, which is obviously a problem. But there are also too many parents who think working all day and making lots of money will somehow make the kids happy. It doesn't.

I've never met a teenager yet that I wanted to come live with me.

But that's just me.

I am inclined to not believe the 'bar caretaker'......!

A mother looking out for her wayward teenage kid!

2 months working at a bar on soi bukkao... she is not wayward anymore and instead a hardworking bar girl. The owner knowingly accepted her to work there at that age and should be imprisoned. But I think the bright lights and music and drinks and easy fast money will be forever tarnished in her future.

In Australia teenagers can work part time or full time if not attend school.

AFAIK, Thailand does not allow young people to work legally.

The Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541: Section 44 of this act states that no employer can employ a child under 15 years old.

Good example of the useless, meaningless Empty Public stance that doesn't serve anyone other than rotten  cops(for brown envelopes passed under the table to keep their blind eyes on that Illegal Trade).

Good to see that you already have a firm grip on Thailand's "economic, social, and cultural fabric."

You here for the temples and beaches then?

You see this it exactly right.

And when posters start saying there is no deterrent and people should be fined etc, the above statement is exactly where all the............ ' fines ' end up.

There isn't a massive clean-up and everyone starts obeying the law, it's just the Police find another cash stream.

I have been here for the past 19 years in the way what they now call 'Fire'.

Enjoying  every day's usual event.

Going to the local market for grocery shopping.

Cooking breakfast after daily exercise.

Quietly enjoying Thai cultures through the communication with the locals.

Photographing things that caught my attention.

Trimming the trees in landlord's garden and feeding their rabbit.

As well as stray cats and dogs.

Occasionally handing out food and other daily commodities to the homeless...

Constantly in search of  another Easy Money source.

A  complete downscale model of Pheu Thai politics.

Or their administration is the upscale version of their enforcers?

Vice-versa or Simply Same-Same.

Many years ago I went to watch MotoGP in a sports bar in Pattaya, a young girl was there, who stood out like a sore thumb, obviously not wanting to be there. I talked to her a little, she could only speak Thai. On leaving I got in touch with the tourist police. Later they got back in touch to say that the parents left her there to pay off debts owed by the family.

Sure.

Are you, or have you ever been, a parent?

No. And I know it is difficult to get it right. This is one of the reasons why I decided not to have children.

I would want to be a good parent. But I am not so sure I actually would be a good parent - even if I would try hard.

I read many phycology books, and I have an idea how many things can go wrong.
