I am talking solely about the music, itself, and also... Improvisation, and... How it hangs together. If it's so good why don't I hear it ever played on the radio? I listen to an oldies channel and neither Beck nor Hendrix ever get played on it. I suspect it's connected to excessive consumption of illegal substances when young and foolish. 1

It's because EVERYTHING, including music, has continued to be dumbed down, beginning 2.5 decades ago, or longer...ever since the Cat Vids, on YouTube, and even before. For example, nobody knows what JAZZ is...these days. If you ask some young turk what JAZZ is... They do not know. They think JAZZ is something that it is actually not. The STUPIDITY of youth, today, is horrendous. They know nothing because, They are taught to be inquisitive and to investigate the world.

How often do you hear Mozart or Bach played on the popular radio stations today? Come on, consume in excess and produce something valuable. It must be so easy to be another Jimi or Morrison. 1 1

One thing most people don't realize ALl the magic that passed thru Hendrix' was done well before the " digital " thechnology for live performance came into existance look at Hendrix in the late 60's vs say what Beck did at Ronnie Scotts / 2007 vs present day 50+ years later Hendrix Guitar/amp/wha/fuzz/Octavia Beck quite a substantial rig with a dozen digital aids plus custom wound pickups.... BUT.. Beck ... all in all it still started with his soul and thru his hands Looking at any other guitarists - present they had 50+ years to study and practice the Master's techniques,,
GammaGlobulin Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 Somebody's missing the MAIN POINT....which is.... It was ONLY Jeff who could hold several thousand fans riveted, with NO VOCALS.....for two hours....and leave them begging for more. Hendrix could not have done this. Because Hendrix was only a demi-god, compared to the REAL GOD....Jeff Beck. And, live in Tokyo (1999) was not Jeff's best performance. Jeff's best performance was done at Ronnie Scott's..... Hendrix was only HALF of what Jeff was. He never new it, meaning Jeff never new it. Jeff was better. Jeff was the god.

Jeff Beck didn't go full instrumental (and pickless) until he was in his 30's. The early Jeff Beck group featured Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood, a genuine supergroup, but it always had a difficult time and never produced all that much because of internal squabbles.

I know what jazz is though I prefer Dixie to boring traditional jazz. 1

Never because it's not popular. One has to listen to the classical channels to hear it. Most of the sheeple of the world only have music as background noise. Mozart and Bach will still be played long after all of today's music is dead and forgotten, simply because they are the real gods of music. 1

It makes no sense the way I wrote it. 1

You, for some unknown reason, think you are able to understand which music is better... let me tell you - you are not. Jeff Beck is an absolute zero compared to Jimi. And those ears of yours… you cannot fix them.. just stop having an opinion based on those “not enough developed” ears of yours. 3 1

I'm not big on saying who was best, but Ry Cooder is definitely under-appreciated. Now that we have Spotify/YouTube it's easy to hear any player. Listen to Ry Cooder's slide guitar on the Stones "Sister Morphine" or Randy Newman's "Let's Burn Down the Cornfield". He was so good on those songs.

Hi Ho Silver Lining was on Caroline Flashback yesterday. And a Hexdrix track. And a Shadows one...Hank taught them all they know! Change stations. Here's Beck meets The Beach Boys. But didn't Hendrix say that Surf music was dead, at Monteret Festival.
