Yes.

But, also...

They should have books they can hold in their hands.

I agree that one cannot do research on smartphone screens. Larger screens are better. Multi-monitor setups are even better. In my experience, everybody immediately benefits from 2 monitors. However, setups with more than two monitors can be overwhelming for many users.

In addition: browsing through (news) feeds and drilling down leads to lockdowns in info bubbles, created by algorithms trained by own behavior and shaped by interested parties. In my surrounding, I see many people misleading themselves in believing bull<deleted>  by swiping and drilling through feeds. Active search, via different search engines and AI tools, is better. Using a separate search box in Firefox makes it easy to search for the same search term with different search engines.

Dear Friends,

Ever wonder why kids today can’t think straight?

I will tell you.

Kids today spend most of their useless days staring at miniscule screens, all the FING livelong day.

What do you imagine this might get one?

ZERO….

That’s what!

Just a moment ago, I tried to research some unimportant topic.

But, I tried to do it on a miniscule phone, an A55 5G phone.

Where did that get me?

NOWHERE, that’s where.

I am only saying that…when I was a lad….

And when I wanted to do a bit of research…

I would head to the nearest library…

I would search for about 10 or 20 pertinent research books….

Then, I would spread out all these books on a very large library table…

And go to work.

Even today, I use a minimum of FOUR FING Computer screens, not one less than about 27 inches, diagonally measured.

And then…I just go to town on researching whatever it is that I am trying to uncover.

So…I am just saying that I FINALLY have found out why kids today are so FING ….

STUPID.

The reason is that they spend most of their time staring at miniscule screens which….ONLY…

Provides them with just ONE FING PERSPECTIVE….for FING SAKE!!!!!

Really bugs me just how FING asinine this type of “research” is….

No FING….WAY….anybody…no matter how intelligent….could POSSIBLY research ANYTHING….on a FING tiny screen…. Simply IMPOSSIBLE….!!!!!!!!

Am I RIGHT?

Or, am I RIGHT????

Do you agree with me???

For FING Sake?

Someday…

A Real Rain is Going to Come….

And clean away all this MAGICAL THINKING……

Best regards,

But…perturbed, just a bit by all this nonsense….

Gamma

Note4:  EVEN using an Apple laptop is NO WAY to do any meaningful research ... .there is just not enough screen space on one lousy screen to open all the books you need to make comparisons in real time……

Doing research this way is a complete FING JOKE….in fact.

Go to the library, and spread out a dozen books in front of you….

Or, at the very least:  Buy a minimum of FOUR FING 29-inch screens….and a super-computer, such as I have…and then…..

GO TO TOWN!!!!!

(And, don't let the pimps from Apple...get in your way.)

You do take a long time to make your pointless.

If you use each screen to display no more than two books, then it's much less overwhelming.

I guess you did not understand me.

I was speaking of using 4 screens for reading books, only, and mostly for research purposes.

Of course, if someone like you might use your 4 screens to play FOUR computer games, simultaneously, then...

This would soon overwhelm almost anyone.

For research purposes.....

4 monitors is the right number.

3....monitors attached together on the bottom level.

This gives you a wrap-around horizontal length of about 165 centimeters (using 3 27-inch Benq's)

Then, you got 35 centimeters high, on these three monitors.

So.... 165 times 35 centimeters equals 5775 square cm.

Then, above your 3 attached monitors (not lizards), you have your 4th 27-inch Benq....coming in at about 59 cm by 35, which equals 2065 square cm.

GRAND TOTAL for one comp = 7840 cm*2

Now, compare that to my A55 5G screen:  7.5 by 16 = 120 cm*2

This is why, before I bought this A55 5G, I had not become as narrow minded as others on this forum.

Now, though....I am.

Also, this is why an iPAD or an Apple laptop is GARBAGE for any serious study or research.

You need more than one screen for opening various books, via PDF or ePUB, or whatever.....simultaneously.

ALSO, I never use that GARBAGE KINDLE garbage .....

I use FING .....  CALIBRE...and....

You should....TOO  !!!!

It's free.

And, it works great.

And, it can open almost anything.....

And, the original developer was a GENIUS out of CAL-TECH....tooooo...

What more do you want?????

Just use a 49 inch ultrawide from samsung, 4 screens in 1, 60W electric average reasonable too. The 34'' uses 30W.

Not good for my purposes.

I prefer to have books separated, same with spreadsheets, etc...

one per screen....

But, I guess that the Samsung would be good for graphic design.

I have seen this screen.

Never used it.

Also....

image.png.cfb5f2a8f2e13ecd2ad63ddb83286bcb.png

MY three 27 inch screens, attached together...are larger.

Also, i would not buy a Samsung display.

I have 1800 mm x 240 mm of screen using 3 27-inch BENQs

So....

This is really a NO-BRAINER....

Anyone who buys one of these Samsung Ultra=Wide screens is  sort of an....

IDIOT.

So, as I say...

The question is.....

Do you want this:

image.png.82ed761b062a3dd3bc05edb290747bf3.png

Or, do you want THIS:

ff0c65ed829800135b93d9172a08b162.jpg

I have the latter.

And, with very good reason.

For one thing, each monitor is individually adjustable.....

And, if one pixel burns out...I can replace that single monitor.....

And, I like a flat screen.

And, many more valid reasons.....

Still, maybe the Samsung wide angle is better for some users, and for some uses.

Who knows....

NOTE4:  In this image, the webcam is not in the right position....obviously.  Also, the top monitor needs to be set back a bit for optimum viewing.

Fortunately: It looks to me like they are using a RUBBERWOOD door....of which I do approve.  Unfortunately:  This door is not properly finished.  Also, there is only a single door when anyone knows you need at least 3 or 4 doors....in order to set up a good workspace.

When I attended a private boy's school (100 yes ago ) I recall our old and wise Latin Master informing we bright and restless young men that amongst the first words of Latin ever translated were:

"The youth of today are not what they were in my day"

What school was that?

What kind of Latin Master was that?

I mean, if it were Latin, I would have said:

But, I guess...

I am no Master of Much.

Strangely enough:

When I was young, I once thought that Remarque was a girl...just based on her middle name, Maria.

Now, though, I wonder if Remarque might have been a LadyBoy.

What do you think?

But I do not care much about gender, as long as it can write well.

And, what is one to make of "orchid"?

Is that a man's name, too?

I don't agree with you about kids, I was an English teacher and there were lots of kids anything but stupid. I know I go on about this and I will keep going on about it. It is when they get older and in some cases even as they are still kids, it is when they start riding motorbikes, and not just kids but adults on cars and motorbikes that their stupidity comes to the fore, and I am talking about a big majority here.

Not once can I go out on my daily ride on my bike and not come into contact with these idiots.

You are doubtlessly correct in what you write.

But the source of the problem is much wider than just the size of the screen.  I use a 17" screen, as anything larger is not readily portable in my back-pack.

Many Internet search engines, beginning with the ubiquitous Google, are deliberately biassed.  This began some years ago when they altered their search algorythms to reflect their and their associates financial interests.  [They have deep pockets and widespread investment interests]

The microwave frequencies used by mobile phones (and wifi etc) can have both short-term and long-term deleterious effects on living organisms.  Whether sprouting seeds or developing brains.  Children's brains are particularly vulnerable.  The mobile phone industry will tell you otherwise: that research shows no harmful effects.  That is because industry-sponsored 'independent' research concentrates on the thermal effects.  Research that examines non-thermal effects of the radiation tells a different story.

In Switzerland wifi has long been banned in schools, which are obliged to use cable connections.  In France wifi was banned in crèches about six or seven years ago.  Wireless baby-alarms should be banned.  Young children should not be given mobile phones to play with, and older children should only be allowed to use them when deemed necessary.

One might say that the problem is attributable to parental ignorance of the dangers.  But it is really a societal issue: we live in a society controlled by mega-financiers.

Another problem causing problems with children's (and adult) mental and physical health, e.g. hyperactivity in young children, is the regular consumption of drinks and snacks high in refined sugars (such as high-fructose corn syrup).

I asked ChatGPT to sum this typical Jingthing's mess up.
Here we go:

Quote

The author expresses frustration with how children today rely heavily on small screens, like smartphones, for research and information. He believes this limits their ability to think critically and conduct thorough research, contrasting it with their own experience of using libraries and multiple large computer screens for in-depth study. The author argues that this reliance on tiny screens leads to a narrow perspective and contributes to a lack of intelligence among today's youth. He calls for a return to more traditional methods of research and express a desire for a change in mindset.

I would agree, except that let's not confuse knowledge and intelligence.

Using narrow screens might not cause diminished intelligence, just idiocy.

They care only about profit. If they reduce the entire population to imbeciles they care not, as long as the imbeciles buy their electronic garbage and consume their mind rotting MSM BS. Western civilization died on the day that the 1% realised that a shopping channel worked. We are living in the last spasms of a dying society.
