Thai Tesla driver admits reckless driving after argument - video

The driver of a white Tesla admitted to reckless driving on a motorway, following a heated argument with his girlfriend, which led to his hospitalisation due to stress. He has accepted responsibility for his actions and vows not to repeat them.

 

Reports emerged on social media yesterday, November 18, of a white Tesla weaving dangerously through traffic on a motorway, eliciting fear among fellow motorists. The car, initially in the left lane, attempted a sudden manoeuvre to the right but was blocked by another vehicle. This resulted in a series of abrupt braking and erratic movements, including reversing and stopping for an extended period.

 

Later, the car’s owner, a lawyer, presented the vehicle to the police for inspection. Meanwhile, the driver, identified as Pitiphat, appeared before investigators at the Traffic Control Centre to face charges of driving without regard for the safety or convenience of others. The vehicle was seized as evidence in the case.

 

In a conversation with reporters, Pitiphat expressed deep remorse, stating that the incident, which arose from a dispute with his girlfriend who was in the car, led to impulsive behaviour. The other driver honked at him, which further agitated him, prompting him to drive aggressively as seen in the viral video. He clarified that he bore no animosity towards the other driver involved in the incident.

 

Pitiphat further explained that the white Tesla he was driving did not belong to him. It was owned by a business associate involved in the used car trade, from whom he had borrowed it.

 

 

Following the incident, he avoided watching the full video online due to shame and acknowledged the negative impact on his business and reputation. He recognised that he should not have acted in such a manner and vowed not to repeat it.

 

The driver added that he has cooperated with the police and accepted all charges against him, recognising the need for accountability. He admitted that he had never engaged in such reckless driving before.

 

“I have been so stressed that I couldn’t eat or sleep. People have been calling me to insult me, which led to my hospitalisation. I accept that I should have been more mindful and I want to apologise to everyone involved, including the other driver.”

 

He disclosed that the vehicle’s owner was displeased upon learning of the incident and chastised him for his actions. The driver has since turned himself into the police, with charges filed and a court hearing expected, reported KhaoSod.

Driver's Reckless Overtaking on Expressway Leads to Sedan Seizure

A tense scene unfolded on the Si Rat expressway when a motorist, Mr Pitiphat Kanchanaphanurat, displayed reckless driving behaviour that resulted in the seizure of his sedan and a significant penalty.

 

Captured on video by a Facebook user, known as "Buffalo of the Road V1", Mr Pitiphat's white Tesla was seen cutting in front of vehicles from both the left and right sides, raising concerns among fellow drivers.

 

On November 19, the Dusit Provincial Court handed down a suspended one-month jail sentence, reducing it from two months due to his confession.

 

Mr Pitiphat, whose driver’s licence had expired, was also fined a total of 7,000 baht, including 5,000 baht for his driving offence and 2,000 baht for the expired licence.

Additionally, his driving privileges have been suspended for six months, and he is required to fulfill a year-long probation that includes community service and regular reporting to authorities.

 

His defence highlighted the stress induced from a personal disagreement with his girlfriend, which led to the reckless driving incident. This dispute was notably over GPS directions, adding to Mr Pitiphat's frustration on the road.

 

The court's decision to seize his Tesla reflects a stern stance against endangering public safety on the expressway. While Mr Pitiphat expressed a desire to meet and apologise to the affected parties, these attempts have reportedly been met with refusal.

 

This incident serves as a reminder of the critical importance of responsible driving, especially on high-speed expressways where safety must be a priority.

 

The authorities' action underscores their commitment to enforcing road safety laws and discouraging hazardous driving practices, reported Thai Newsroom.

I don't think it had anything to do with an argument, it was obstructing the driver who beeped at him. This can be typical of some Thai drivers who become incensed at the sound of a horn and have their fragile egos bruised.

Using your horn here is deemed rude, hurtling through a red light almost killing a pedestrian is quite acceptable.

In a previous report in AN, the guy said that the car was not his. He had borrowed it.

A bit more realistic than when I was fined back in 2000. It was 50 baht then. (They would not accept my paper UK licence.)
