A shooting incident in Kong District, Nakhon Ratchasima, has left one person dead and several others injured, stemming from an alleged land dispute.

At 11:10 on November 24, police officers from the Kong Police Station received a report of a shooting in Non Ta Kaeo Village, Khukhad Subdistrict, Kong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect, identified as Mr. Sawat Puang Sombat, reported as being aged 80, in a frenzied state. The suspect engaged in a standoff with police, firing his weapon at authorities. Police surrounded the area and were eventually able to apprehend him.

Initial investigations revealed that one victim, Mrs. Thongmee Channok, the suspects younger sister, was killed during the shooting, while Ms. Jaturaporn Prakobkaew,  the suspect’s nephew's wife, sustained injuries. Both were struck by gunfire during the same incident.

Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute over land ownership, which escalated into violence.

The injured victim was rushed to Kong Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, police collected evidence at the scene and are assessing related damages.

Mr. Sawat Puang Sombat has been taken into custody and handed over to investigators for further questioning. Police are preparing to press charges against him in accordance with the law.

Pol. Col. Watanyu Rungratsamee, the head of Kong Police Station, stated that he has directed Lt. Nitipong Srisukwatana, the lead investigator, to expedite the inquiry into the events leading to the attack and ensure that justice is served.
