Is this for real?

In the unlikely event it is, sin sod is only for virgins. The fact that stupid farangs have been giving them sin sod for non virgins for many years has only meant that they think all farangs will hand over loadsacash for a second hand bride.

If the OP tells her he will give nothing, and she dumps him it was only about the money anyway.

Are you saying, all first time Sin-Sod married ladies were all virgins..........?.......

You should really wait until you have been here longer than 3 posts before getting married. If the parents suspect you are a troll they will up the sinsod.

Paying sinsod for a non virgin is not part of the culture. It was in compensation for the parents losing a caretaker, as girls were ( ?are ) expected to look after their parents. If sinsod was required, it was for the first time she got married.

Well lived here for over 25 years and have seen sinsod payed many times for non virgins.  You lived here for a long time and find it strange you have come to this conclusion.  Two weddings (Thai marrying another Thai) in the last year I went to  where sinsod was paid and she had kids.  Happens all the time and being a virgin has little if any significance.

You got done! I only handed over 50,000 for mine ( which I got back ).

I can always count on you for a contrary opinion, nobody was done. The family got a lot of pride out of this, I got my money back and it was all good.

Actually I consider you to have the contrary opinions. I reckon that most of what I believe is sensible.

I doubt you will accept that, as is your right.

IMO paying sin sod for a well used vagina is stupid, but sometimes it's easier to just go with the flow and do what you and I did, and get it back.

The problems are caused by stupid farangs that fall for the "culture" BS and pay up for sick buffaloes and such like nonsense. They wouldn't do it for a woman back home, but we westerners lose our brain when we encounter women that are fun to have sex with. My wife was always going on about "culture" when it benefited her, but not so much when it benefited me.

I was always compared to a farang that married a cousin and handed over vast amounts of money, to the point the family wanted my wife to divorce me and marry an ATM. They got the divorce, but I doubt she managed to hook another farang.

Sin sod was compensation for taking a caretaker away from the family. It happened once, but back in the day people didn't get divorced just because they didn't like their partner. Perhaps they do expect a second go around of the money tree for the same daughter now. IMO it's not culture though- just greed.

I am a 22 yo college graduate from a top western university.

How does a 22 year old guy have a spare 100,000 baht, and what sort of job does the OP have to be living in LOS, or is he going to take her and her two kids back home?

For the benefit of the poster you quoted, back when sin sod was started  non married women stayed at home and looked after her parents, and it would have been shameful if she fornicated around.

Moving on, while it may be possible for a woman to have had sex before meeting her hubby to be in the last 50 or so years, it's a sure sign that she ain't a virgin if previously married or has kids.

None, she is obviously no longer a virgin, the payment was to mark the ending of that state.

Funnily enough, with the slow infection of Western feminism, it seems many Thai girls to want to remove the virginity/submission side of sin sod (what the guy gets), but keep the money side (what the girl gets).  🙄
