Pattaya police, on November 28, arrested 17 Chinese nationals allegedly operating as administrators for a major illegal loan shark syndicate targeting thousands of victims in China.

Acting on a warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court, police raided two homes in the Pratumnak area of South Pattaya, Chonburi Province, which had been rented as operational bases.

The suspects are accused of managing illegal loans and debt collection on behalf of the syndicate, with evidence revealing a cash flow of approximately 135 million baht. Each administrator reportedly earned monthly salaries of several hundred thousand baht, excluding commissions based on the amount of loans disbursed and debts recovered.

Police are intensively questioning the suspects and investigating further connections to the transnational loan shark network. Pol. Lt. Gen. Yingyos Thepchamnong, Acting Commissioner of Region 2, is scheduled to hold a press conference to provide more details on the operation, which is part of an ongoing crackdown on criminal networks exploiting the region.
