What is your plan for christmas?

We are making plans for the Christmas, and it is either Islands south east or the west coast beaches/Islands. 

 

Any ideas where to go? Budget 1 - 3k a night with breakfest is reasonable. 

 

Where is your favorite destination for travel? Any hidden gems around worth going to at beach side?  Links and pics appreciatet if suggestion hotels or resorts.

The good thing about staying Thailand during Christmas, especially in Isaan, is no Traffic, not to much Christmas wibes, even there is at the shopping malls and hotels still feels very relaxed.

 

Just booked Christmas eve and new year at our favorite Island at the west coast. Sea view bungalow, fan only, cold water, surounded with coconut trees and flying tree snakes, and a few big spiders.

Buffet Christmas Day Lunch with the family at the Holiday Inn in Pattaya, and stay overnight.

Since the kid asked me if Santa was real, about 20 yrs ago, (she really screwed herself) ... I don't even notice Xmas till almost he day of, and I might play some music.  Though I don't listen to music much any more, if at all.

 

Don't see the point without kids in the house, especially being an Athirst.  Just another day for us.

LOl! I have for MANY years never even thought about "Christmas", a time where everybody goes bananas to overgo each other in wasting money! If anything, Christmas is for KIDS!!!

For me Christmas is the time of the year, I either spend time with family, or I have travelled to places with sun and warmer climate, so it is both. Traditional christmas, since my sister had kids, my parents gets older, and now my nephew got a kid to, so it is okay to do a  traditional celebration. 

 

Anyway, it is nice to break up from Isaan and go somewhere in the best season to, and our favorite Island, never gets to busy, so it is still nice. 

 

Been twice to Korat since I came back, and at the hotels, restaurants, and also shopping mall there is christmas time, so you cant escape completely even in Thailand.. 

 

And if I remember right, at the tourist places the bars still have their christmas decoration hanging from 5 years back, and nothing have changed

Just another day to me. Zero meaning or relevance. An overrated commercialized religious myth holiday. Great for children tho. Never had any of those.

 

As for travel...I always drive or fly during non-holidays, with the exception being 2 years back. Spent 10 days including 25th in very rural SW Surin province. Was great, as not once was Xmas mentioned and never even crossed anyone's mind, including mine.

Festive drinks at midday, comparing xmas jumpers, etc.  3pm a full on pub lunch with "all the trimmings".  Kip.  Midnight mass somewhere on Soi 4.

At my favorite resort and restaurant bar, they have been celebrating English christmas the last 5 - 6 years or so, and seems popular, since they are always full booked, and also manage to fill up the neighbour resort to. Im happy to see some manage to make a business in Thailand, and especially as remote as these guys stay, and also contribute to those who live nearby. An important meeting point for many, and for me, great to just come by for a chat and eat some western food.

Totally agree, but for family Im willing to share some time when Im home, but as you say, not my favorite time of the year.

Christmas have been soley for the economic growth, same as many other traditions mixed in with religion and fairytales, but first of all, it is naturally a celebration of end and start of seasons, as well moon phases.

Why to visit crammed places just for a fairy tale day or two with high prices and bad food❓

Nobody cooks better than my wife. And our garden with big trees gives shade and tranquility.🙏🧑‍🎄

Sometimes you do something for your wife, and give her the feeling of holiday, and do something everyone else do, not only sit home while everyone else is travelling and enjoying life. My wife work hard at our farm, and do a great job as a wife to, so why not take time off celebrate her?

My wife's not working. And in addition staying home in these days I will avoid accidents. And also I'm not into turkey or ham anymore. To prepare salmon is my work then.

Unless this year is different, some of the island resorts will be really crowded between Dec 15 and Jan 15.  Even in Pattaya, some of the hotels can be fully booked. Still, I spent some time yesterday looking for an escape of sorts.  So far, I've resisted the temptation. I'm already in an ocean-front condo with a nice pool, Central Pattaya is a short Bolt ride away, and I can do anything I want.  I might just wait until January.  Christmas is nice, but just another excuse for a party.

looking forward to snow and the traditions of Christmas (musicals lights carols smell of cut/live trees, egg nog, American football, turkey dinner, and gift giving)

From 21st until 2nd Jan we will be at Good Times Resort in Kanchanaburi … great place to stay. And of course play some golf in the area. And obviously laze around the pool and break the diet well and truly.

Stayed a few times there when I was traveling through, used to have good breakfest included at 750 a night. Ponghpen guesthouse also okay budget resort with breakfest and  a small swimmingpool

Yes … I remember paying that when those rooms were first built, maybe 2010-2012 can’t remember exactly when. Those rooms now cost just a little more ….

 

The place has now more than doubled in size since then. Has a new huge swimming pool. It is also exceptionally popular. The owners Hong and Charlee have done a great job.

 

This time of the year sitting at the side of the Kwai Yai, whether at breakfast or in the evening is very pleasant.  Loads of pics on booking.com if anyone cares to look.

 

Over the years we have stayed in several Kanchanaburi hotels …eg, Felix, The Glory, Princess River Kwai, River Kwai View, even Dheva Mantra. But we have settled on GTR  as location is great, food is very good, staff are excellent and all speak English. OK

The only negative, it is close to the bridge, and can experience some noise. 

 

Anyway great to padle down the river on Sup to finely arrive there for a beer and some snack.

That place looks amazing for food, very English type meals and expanding to sell a variety of meats for either collection or delivery. BUT I see that it is up for sale again. 
 

Bikers Breakfast … I couldn’t get through that …huge … and proper sausages which are quite a rarity in many resorts.

 

Next time we are up that way againwill give it a good look at …thanks

It has been up for sale for 2 years or so, but still same who runs it. I do not believe they can sell without huge margin loss, and just have to accept he will stay there for a long time.

so true ,,        but for fun ..   go to a Lotus' and catch one of the shows,,

 they have the cute cashiers and other staff dress in santa and elf attire then parade around the common space with a boom box while they sing "Ringle Bells  ..  be prepared to pee your pants
