It is apparent that Ukraine, at great cost, is hurting Russia through its drone attacks on oil and gas facilities.

 

It is no surprise therefore to find Trump focusing his attentions on a ceasefire on attacks on infrastructure. He is seemingly parroting Moscow's desires and dressing them up as progress on the peace negotiations. This is completely dishonest.

 

The reality is that Trump is not an honest broker, places all the pressure on Ukraine and agrees to whatever Putin wants. If he really wants peace, he should support Ukraine in any way he can with their attacks on Russian infrastructure in order to force Putin to compromise. Oil and gas is the lifeblood of the Russian economy. That needs to be where the pressure is placed.

 

Trump will not do this as Trump himself may be compromised.

Russia is simply too corrupt, too backward, too statist and too authoritarian, even too small with its population placing it somewhere between Japan, Mexico and Bangladesh, to be a true superpower. If the country is an economically and culturally insignificant place but dreaming of being one of the world's great powers, then the only way of making their presence known is by violence.

There is another country "making their presence known .. by violence.". Anything to say about them in the relevant subforum, or is it only bad when Russia does it?

Russia is not as economically significant as other superpowers like China and the US but to claim that it is culturally insignificant shows your ignorance. I’m guessing that you come from a country with less than 300 years of history and your biggest cultural export is that of the “ugly tourist”. That and interference.

Why would any sane person wish for a war? It does not mean Russia wouldn't be eventually beaten but only after a lot of destruction and misery. The problem is Russia has a leader who sees war essential for his own survival.

We are now seeing massive hits on Russian energy and military infrastructure.  "It was all destroyed", instead of "some damage", Today's knocked out was 1.7 million barrels/day.

Russia's economy is now dependent on perpetual war... otherwise it will collapse miserably. The Kremlin knows that it can't afford to win the war or lose it, as the economic implications are too negative regardless of what happens... both end games are a problem.

They are pouring money into the war economy, which is shot in the sky and exploded at the ground in Ukraine. This model is called by pro-Russians as a booming economy.
