Monk's Makeshift Eyebrows with Tape Solves Welfare Card Payment Issue

A monk's ingenious approach to a welfare payment mishap has captivated social media users. After failing to verify his identity with the state welfare payment app due to missing eyebrows, the monk received help from inventive store staff who used black adhesive tape to create temporary eyebrows.

This creative solution was shared on Facebook by CNew Viewer 4K, swiftly gaining traction with nearly 8,000 reactions. The monk's dilemma unfolded when the facial recognition system at a partner store, essential for processing welfare card payments, couldn't recognise him because of his eyebrow-less appearance—a characteristic of Buddhist monks.

By applying the adhesive-tape eyebrows, the staff managed to enable the system to process the monk's payment successfully.

Photos from the incident showed the tape being applied, the monk's face scanned, and a staff member chuckling at the unconventional fix.

Commenters on social media both laughed at the humorous scene and noted the real-life challenges such incidents highlight, particularly for shops accepting welfare card payments.

This episode underscores the unforeseen hurdles that cultural practices can pose to technology-driven systems, reported MGR online.

I have seen some women with the ''Groucho'' type eyebrows  a lot worse looking  than that tattooed on permanently.

Why is a monk even able to use the welfare system. Isn’t self imposed poverty part of the Buddhist ethos

Yeah I don’t know about that I’ve seen monks with brand new iPhones brand new calculators even driving vehicles TIT

Next step is this becomes 'social media frenzy' and the monk will cash it by selling these makeshift insulation tape eyebrows as good luck fashion item!

Buddhism with thai characteristics is different. Farang no understand.

I have 2 brother in laws who are monks in the Korat area. A middle ranking monk there built himself a 3 story house on the wats land. By the way the guy applying the eye lashes will be doomed for life as you're not supposed to touch a monk, so the mumbo jumbo goes on.

An ex used to shave hers off, and then repaint them in with a pencil... one of the many things she did I couldn't understand.

As long as she shaved elsewhere, too - no need to understand that. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Did he fund the house with welfare payments using the same system as this monk, stolen temple funds or by selling good luck insulation tape eyebrows?

In Thailand, it is forbidden for women to touch Buddhist monks, and it is generally considered disrespectful to do so. Men are allowed to be in contact with monks when needed to do so, but otherwise, keep a respectful distance. Men should also use their right hands when handing something to or taking something from a monk.

Women touching a monk is a no no, men is ok.

Odd that so many monks don't know that.
