Slack, they've been at it up here near Yasothon for weeks.

They also started the season to burn wood for coal now, so

I heard they chopping illegal wood for weeks, and now the fume of smoke Wil last for months.

Still people believe that terrible air quality in Bangkok or Pattaya comes from crop burning?

Think again.

AQ in Bangkok has been bad since weeks before harvesting even began. And it currently  is much worse than up here. Millions of vehicles creeping in endless jams.

Pattaya the gridlock capitol of the east coast. Thousands of cars and Diesel stinkers locked in heavy traffic.

And here I fear the overloaded trucks with their black smoke much more than the burning.

If you want clean air you have to go far south and keep away from cities.

My paradise is getting worse day by day. Perfect temperature, but every year's awareness of the real pollution problems gets under my skin.

To be fear, it was not that bad 5 years ago when we started to build first our bungalow, and later the farm. The prolonged dry season and heat have made it worse, and the Forrest fires haven't even started yet.

Isaan is a huge area, and not one person posting mentions where the burning is going on.

Look AQ repors, it's there

Yea, it probably was, you just didn't notice it, or use the info available to know it.

I was quite ignorant myself, and didn't realize how bad the air was at Udon Thani for years.  Had a few reality checks, top level of parking garage @ Central Plaza different times of the year.  Almost a 360° view, and rainy season can see all the hills, vs smog season, when you wouldn't even know they were there.

Same with 2nd house build, having a 2nd story, and could see the ridges of the hills to the west toward Nong Bua LamPhu, during rainy season, and again, non existent during smog season.

Most people at street level, can't tell, or if not at higher vistas, during both seasons.

IGNORANCE IS BLISS ... then the reality kicked in, and I couldn't wait to leave, and go south for cleaner air.   Still get the 75-100 AQI a couple months.  Even when not that bad, the PM2.5 still is, as now, and air purifiers are on in the house.

Outside locally and AQI is 62, but PM2.5 is 19 µg/m³ ...

... "PM2.5 concentration is currently 3.8 times the World Health Organization annual PM2.5 guideline value" ...

XiaoMi to the rescue ...

until the last farmer dies of some lung related illness they will continue to burn as they have forever.  SInce the pollution affected illnesses take quite some time to actually begin to cause deteriorated health they just don't believe that doctors are telling them the truth.  Many smokers still don't believe that lung almost all lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking.  It took many trials and heavy fines on the manufacturers before they stopped fighting as the courts finally agreed with they doctors

They never will change, and the Government is giving a dam

It is as you says, but the Forrest around our farm didn't burn every year as it have done the last 3 years. Used to be every 2. or 3. year, and this year the rainseason didnt start before middle may, and ended in beginning of October. We experienced rainfalls until January som seasons, but now it is heading for longer and longer dry season, and the cold seasons is even shorter and  than I experienced experienced in the beginning. Coincidence? Might be

They too realize the danger and over costs and the PM has even signed an agreement with neighboring countries this year to no avail as it is like many other ignored laws here, especially ones that the govt has ignored as they watched the same crap every year!  It is impossible almost to change the minds of ignorant people if they think it will cost them money to change and since most of the illnesses caused by the pollution takes a long time to show the effects.  I used to almost be able to see the ground when flying up to NKP from BKK in the 70's ,..,.almost because with all the burning/smoke seeing the ground from the air was impossible!

You think signing a piece of Paper will change anything? :cheesy:

that basically was what I was telling you, just about impossible to change those farmers and mushroom hunters to stop burning.

Now wouldn't it have just been easier to state which provinces instead of stating AQ repors (I have no idea what that even means).
