Nice so much better weather than Chiang mai province. I didn't know it got that cool there. I haven't seen even close to 13c this year in Samoeng and it's more north in the mountains and even higher elevation (500 compared to 250 in Loei). We got rain the other day and the temps seem to be dropping now but still won't hit 13c tomorrow I bet.

Trouble with some of these out-of-the-way places is , what would you do all day ? OK if you have a Thai GF / wife and nice house where you can relax , but if stuck in a small hotel with no pool ....? There`s nowhere to walk and no beach to sit on .

Best idea would be to just travel around from place to place , although many of these small towns look the same .

I would like to enlist the help of fellow AN members in asking where do you recommend I go with the following stipulations: 

 

1. Hardly any farangs in sight, especially tourists.

2. Remote places, can be mountainous, towns, city, beach, jungle, whatever.

3. Reasonable food

4. Reasonable room rates

5. Real local people, no tourist BS.

 

I welcome any and all input into this topic. Finally the tourist ghettos have worn me down - it took a while but it has finally happened. Now I understand Joe who retires way out in the sticks on a nice plot of land and a couple water buffalo with his young thai bride. There is something real in that kind of life that the ghetto just cannot provide. 

 

Wherever the tourists are going this high season, I'm not. I want a comprehensive list of places that are truly off the beaten track.

Weather in CM is hot garbage. Too much pollution and cars put a heat blanket over the entire region. People tell me it's colder in Isaan now. There's a tip for Bob, stay away from Chiang Mai, at least 100 kilometers in any direction.

My dear OP. Most Farangs that live outside of Tourist-Hubs live with their Thai Wifes/Thai Family. It may work out or it may not work out.
I myself lived in the Thai-Sticks solo for 5 years. Learned basic Thai. But never was able to call any of my Thai neighbors as "friends". I remained a "stranger", especially as I showed no interest in any long-term relationship with a local beauty and her family.

The internet was my friend. After 5 years, I decided to return to civilisation, fearing that I would end up in a mental istitution eventually.

Rural Thailand is still not prepared to harbor "solo farangs", only wanting to live in peace, undisturbed by locals, them thinking that you must be "rich". The root of the problem.

Therefore: Be careful what you ask for.

Loei province is well known to be the coldest place in winter and hottest place in summer. Phu Rua and Phukradung mountains being the highest
