Tourists Ignore Police in Patong: Drag Locked Motorbike Through Streets

I had my bike locked in Bangkok years ago, it cost me 200 Baht to get it unlocked. Even if these brainiacs had to pay 1,000 Baht, it would be a whole lot cheaper and no risk of spending the night in a Thai jail.

It’s very hard to see who is , or not, an unwelcome tourist at immigration. Most people are dressed tidily and behave themselves. It won’t help to reduce the duration of Visa exempt entry either . Everyone can always get a 30 day extra at immigration. What is needed is police on the streets. Especially at night. One or two police boxes strategically placed, and a small shop selling safe helmets at a reasonably expensive price. That would stop most of the idiots without , including Thais.  Breathalyzers would help too, save some tragic accidents even for expats and mostly law abiding residents.

What a joke some locals moaning about tourists breaking laws what about them riding 3-4 on a bike no helmets no insurence nothing, riding in the direcrion to oncoming traffic disregarding other users.

Yeh but they are Thai . I get they are still criminals and idiots but they are at least Thai Idiot criminals . Tourists (guests) committing crime hits totally different. I should know coming from the UK , we have “non” invited guests committing crime

Many countries can not even afford to bother police with parking violations.

Usually done by some "public order office" under city council rule.

Hahaha,

Yeah, but city councils can't keep the money in countries with the proper rule of law.

Here, it's the Police domain and piggy bank.

I know a guy who went and got his motorbike twice! from the local police lock-up.

He went around 2 am carrying a big bolt cutter and cut of the chain, started the bike and went home.

He never heard anything from the cops, mind you this was nearly 20 years ago.

If only! I live 5 minutes walk from the police box outside Big c extra on Klang and pass regularly. I almost never see a cop outside the box doing anything, even tho his bike is parked there.

Literally 100 bikes would stop at the lights with no helmet but they are just too lazy to make the effort.

Oh, and you can buy a 'legal' helmet in Big C for under 300 baht less than the fine if the cops were serious.

That’s what happens when you open borders to so called tourists who arrive full of disrespect and with $5 in their pockets. Bigger numbers, more trouble, less disposable income. Another success story from TAT.

Lot of assumptions there......🤔

I've had a bike chained - annoying as it was parked along with dozens of others on a "No parking couples days" and picked at random. A sign that was later pointed out to me by a local was tiny, mounted high up a pole and, at the time, I had no idea what a "couples day" was.

I've never seen a Wave or a Scoopy chained, always a more upmarket scooter, as ridden by tourists - the bike in this story is a brand new (red plate) ADV160 and so pretty much guaranteed to be ridden by a farang victim.

Yeah, and there you are again. The humorless serial complainer. at least you amuse yourself, according to the overuse of emojis.

You would only need to dish out some Singaporean-style corporal punishment and this type of behaviour would virtually disappear overnight.
