Sorry, but back peddling now is of no use. You know what you wrote, and you also know it was wrong. That is why I reported it.

Wow you are a piece of work.....half of what you wrote is rubbish, and you have the audacity to admonish another poster. 🙄

urghh .. that’s so annoying.

In Hat Yai, there was a nice young female immigration officer, easy to understand her Thai. The following year she moved to retirement visas. The new woman was plain rude, we didn’t click and I just didn’t want to talk to her. She tried to ask me about how I could afford to live in Thailand as I wasn’t of retirement age, i said “I rent out properties in the UK” “aha .. gotcha, you said investments last year” to which I replied, well isn’t that the same thing, I wasn’t so specific last year, sorry, then she went to “so .. what’s your parents name?” I looked at my wife, and we both said in unison “mum and dad” and had a good laugh together. She went crazy, telling me she was a police captain, that she was to be shown respect at all times. She continued to tell me on my report that my Thai language was very good, but I hadn’t spoken any Thai today. I informed her that I sometimes I don’t like to speak Thai and for official business it’s better to speak English. She tried to tell me that she was doubtful that I was the same person who applied for a visa the previous year. There was no issue with the application, she was just puffing out her chest.

I never saw her in the subsequent years, but I heard her in the next cubicle giving the applicant the third degree, needlessly too, people generally don’t retire to Hat Yai for an easy life, there has to be something that keeps you there.

Now I'm really looking forward to next years application......555........I'll try the mum and dad and see what happens...

No...Marriage 400k can be used.

As can 400k of Retirement deposit for a length of time. Both must be replenished eventually.

No, I was asking is there anything in writing, meaning from immigration itself...

Think you won't find any written rule about maintaining the 400k during the under consideration period.

What you will find is various immigration offices having their "rules"

Here is one random post from thread one year back.

Right. Each renewal of my marriage visa I had to show 400k when picking up the stamp a month later. And one can hear the officers say the same to other applicants: leave the money in the bank until you get your visa approved"

On other hand you will find many posts that it's not required at "their office"

You have posted in few previous threads that your office does not have this requirement.

On the rare occasion that head office would require something extra its best advised to maintain the 400k till final stamp is in pp.

Edit: sorry for oversized font and bold type. I did not do that

Which is the case for marriage - it is not a local office decision so money should be available for check until final approval to be safe.

So there is no immigration ruling, as my office seems to follow, after all, if it were a ruling, they would actually state, "keep the money in the bank till you have the extension stamp", not in the bank for 60 days as proof...

You are comfortable with what your office requires so stick with that.

My point is that does not apply across the board.

Good summary from @Tod Daniels from another forum.

Note the word SOME

"The 400K baht banked money method for proof of funds for an extension based on marriage to a thai need to be in the bank account for 2 months before you apply for the extension.

SOME offices request you keep the funds in the account during the under consideration period (but this is not a posted requirement).

After that you can do what you want with the money as long as it's back to 400K baht 2 months before your next yearly extension"

I have the link you gave me before, so I know what is required. I just want to hear from posters who have done the 400,000Bt in the bank method. I have read and heard of reports about IO's attitude as it is well known that they do not want you doing the marriage extensions as it is so much work for them, they want you to do the retirement extensions instead.

A lot depends on which IO you use.

I have no problems with the IO in Kamphaeng Phet and they are both user friendly and farang friendly plus they speak fair English.

However I have a marriage extension and I also use the monthly income method, The 2 problems I have come across is that Bangkok Bank want  3 working days notice for a 12 month statement, and as the IO is only a small office, they need 2 copies of everything, one for themselves and one copy for the regional IO office in Chiang Mai.

Nakhon Sawan IO were very good when I used to go there before KPP opened.

So bottom line: you obtained extension.

Also OP is not dealing with Hat Yai.

You ran into a nutter on a particular day and received extension.

How did home visit go?

I have had no problems with any home

visit - the OP doesn’t mention where he will be applying, just for experiences. My suggestion is that it is generally painless.

The other poster has similar experiences (who is in Chaiyaphum, the OP probably won’t apply their either) asked questions by an over zealous IO. Like I said, in KKC, it’s just a formality, you file your application, the FLS check the documents efficiently and then an IO processes the visa pretty swiftly.

Different strokes for different folks.

I regard myself as the friendly type at places such as bars etc. however as far as some random official coming to do a home visit that's a No No for me.

In any event I think the OP has decided not to do Non O extensions marriage..

Really? I never had an issue with the whole process. In HY one guy came, everything was a formality short and sweet - they wanted photos on the bed there which is a bit of an imposition. Generally HY office is pretty straight up, I didn’t mind them. There are so few expats down that way immigration has more lucrative avenues of making money than extorting westerners, I think we are seen more as an inconvenience.

In KKC two guys came, we made them sit in the garden. I prepared two witnesses, they made them sign, and then loitered about making small talk about my bikes, obviously expecting the missus to say “oh, thanks for coming, here’s a little something ..” as some would do. My wife didn’t see their angle, lol, and she kept on babbling on, they wasted a further 10 mins there.

"Bit of an imposition" for YOU.

"No Go" for ME..

I would find that ridiculous and demeaning.

Also the witness thing (if required) I wouldn't be happy with.

As I stated previously...to each their own

My personal experience is that processing yearly extensions by reason of marriage are not that much of a hassle at all. I have done four extensions, all in Hua Hin and the only slightly annoying thing about it is the number of documents that need to be signed when you hand in the final package at the Immigration Office.

I've never really had a problem about supplying the correct documents, Hua Hin supplies a list of what they require and so long as you follow it, you won't have a problem.

The only slight problem I had was in the very first year (when I didn't have the document list from them) and I didn't have a copy of my daughter's birth certificate and had to go back home to get it and make a copy.

Subsequent years - plain sailing. I've always found the IO's very pleasant to deal with. No questioning of virtually any kind, they just take the documents, check through them, take a photo of myself and the wife and then give me a date to return to get the extension stamped in.

Incidentally, they only ever did a home visit in the first year, which was a quick ten minute drop by, which I didn't find intrusive in the slightest.

That's all well and good. Some offices do home visit every extension .

Also from post couple above yours..

.,..."they wanted photos on the bed"

You happy with that, then fine.

(He means sit on the bed for photo)

How demeaning

IMHO anyone considering a switch to marriage extensions should weigh up the likely risk in their case of being faced with the same sort of tragic situation as faced the OP of the following thread:
