Dont recomend granite, it can stain and discolour and often does, at least 2 places along suk in pattaya sell the stuff, for similar price man made stone is far superior, also a place along suk that sells it.

Why do you think that a regular Joe would know the difference between natural granite and manufactured granite? There are issues with ALL natural and manufactured stone countertops. Let the man make his choice 😂😂

Our experience with granite is just the opposite.  The real granite we have used, at least 15 or more times, has not had a problem with staining or discoloring.   Our last house, however, came with a man-made product, which we would not have chosen.  It stained fairly easily.  It didn't help that it was mostly creamy-white with a bit of gray veining.  We prefer granite with a darker shade and more interesting pattern.  If it ever did stain it would likely not show or be hard to spot.

get tiles or slate.

Few materials compare to the feel and look of a beautiful slab of granite. Everything else is a cheap looking substitute.

In our second home we went for granite kitchen tops. What we found is the greyish one we chose hid the dirt on the surface very well because of the speckled pattern which camoflaged it Small bits of food waste were almost invisible unless you crouched down and got an eye level view across the edge. Even after wiping had to do this to make sure the surface was clean. Next house went back to regular tiles for this reason.

In my opinion, the man made stuff like quartz can be as good or even better than granite in terms of maintenance and support . Granite should be resealed every few years as quartz every 20 years. But quartz depends on the manufacturer, there are a wide range of qualities. There are different quality levels of Granite. My neighbour has quartz countertops and made the mistake of having a fancy edge. Now the edge has multiple chips and chunks missing looks awful, repaired multiple times - it was made in China. Buyer beware!

Internet reports show India black granite has a good reputation for hardness and durability and is readily available here in Thailand at a reasonable price.

Modern man made quartz countertops are more durable, harder and never need to sealed.

Look into it Sherm

I inherited a beautiful green marble kitchen counter when I bought my house. All I can say is, it looked nice when it was new but it's about the least practical stone you could use in a kitchen. Marble is metamorphic carbonate rock, and acid marks it badly even when it's been polished, so any lime or lemon juice or vinegar will leave permanent marks. Marble may work fine in a bathroom, but definitely not in a kitchen.

I think there's a difference between Marble and Granite.  I used to have a house with what I think was Italian marble.  It was everywhere. Countertops, bathroom walls, floors.  It was OK, but the floors hadn't been polished in years, so it was a little dull.

July 1, 2024

The ban will start on July 1, 2024 in most states and territories. The world-first decision comes after hundreds of workers developed silicosis from working on engineered stone, a popular material mostly used for kitchen benches and bathroom vanities.

Manufactured stone? If it was in Thailand they told you s.h.i.t which is common since there product knowledge is next to zero.... Ive had manufactured stone in 3 houses so far, no issues granite once, issues, might be a good reason why 99.9% of renovations and new home builds we did in AU we used manufactured stone, particular Cesar stone, which is a trade name, I specified it here with my kitchen, of course Thias think your stupid and give you something else which was a manufactured stone and I can see the difference but hey it aint granite which im having issues with in the bathroom, its not liking my partner make up, which goes to show you hey?

Yep, fully can relate to that, one time dropped into the stone supplier we used on all our jobs, being in the office I could smell the <deleted>, told the poor honey on the opposite side of the counter the dangers associated with it, like most people she needed a job, hope she left soon after, give a thought to the guys on minimum wages in the factory cutting it, like this is 2020, the ban would have screwed this company but the work force? who knows in 10 years.

It was a mid-century hose, not a condo,  Anyway, you're right about design trends looking dated after a few years.  Take a look at some kitchens from the 70s, for example.  If I was building or remodeling something today, I'd try to find a styled that wasn't so trendy.

It wasn't a case of being told anything.  Our previous house came with the product I described in my earlier post.  As I said, it would not have been my choice.  Of course, the product they used was not Corian, Caesarstone, or any other name brand manufactured stone.  I know these products are durable.   The previous house was our first experience with this type of product and we found it to be unsatisfactory in comparison to granite.  Again, not a name brand, quality western product.

I prefer the variety and natural look of granite and we have used granite in our numerous renovations here, including the house we just finished.  We also like to give work to independent granite companies rather than the chains.  We have found there is a good choice of granite here and, surprisingly, the granite we used on our current house wasn't much different in price to the manufactured product on our previous house.  I suspect the builder used the manufactured stone in the project for a uniform, neutral look and, perhaps, it was easier to get a lot of it that looked the same at a reasonable price for the houses as it was used in all the kitchens, the bath vanities, and some other countertops.

Attached, a photo of a kitchen we did using natural stone.  This particular pattern I think is my personal favorite of all the ones we have done.  Getting this one-of-a-kind and very interesting look is where granite shines, for me.  In this case, it's almost like looking at a painting.  Of course, that's just my taste and others may prefer a different look.

We have had the same granite countertops for over 20 years. Nary a problem, no stains, no cracking, and easy to clean. We went to the granite place and bought a slab big enough for our requirements. Then had it cut by the company who did our kitchen. Money very well spent.

Yes, very different.  Doesn't mean I can't like both.   One of the reasons I like granite is the wide variety of colors and patterns available here, at a reasonable cost for many of the choices.  It can sometimes be a hard choice picking one over another one.
