Fire Engulfs Commercial Building in Nonthaburi, Injuring Two
Picture from responders A fire broke out at a four-storey commercial building in Nonthaburi on the morning of 16 January, causing extensive damage and injuring two people. At 06:30, police from Mueang Nonthaburi Police Station received a report of a fire at a commercial building in Soi Duangmanee, behind the Ministry of Public Health in Bang Khen subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi district. Firefighters from the Nonthaburi Municipality were dispatched to the scene with nine fire trucks. The fire originated on the ground floor of the third unit in a row of four interconnected shophouses. Police cordoned off the area, halting traffic to allow firefighters to access the site. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the building contained flammable materials such as paint containers, thinner, and home renovation supplies. Firefighters used chemical-infused water additive to combat the flames, taking approximately one hour to bring the fire under control. Two people sustained injuries in the incident. The building owner, Mr. Arkhom, 73, suffered a fractured elbow while attempting to push a car away from the fire by breaking its window. Another individual, Mr. Teerapon, 43, was injured after jumping from the second floor to escape the blaze. Both were treated by rescue teams at the scene before being transferred to Phra Nang Klao Hospital. Mr. Charin Sithsanguan, a firefighter at the scene, stated that upon arrival, they observed intense flames spreading rapidly from the ground floor to the second floor due to the presence of highly flammable materials, including furniture and paint cans. A total of nine fire trucks were used when extinguishing the blaze. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Police are coordinating with forensic experts to conduct a thorough investigation of the site and will interview witnesses who were in the building at the time of the incident to determine the cause. -- 2025-01-17 -
