Trainee Officer's Drunken Gun Mishap Claims Two Lives in Chiang Mai

A tragic incident unfolded in Chiang Mai's Fang district when 28-year-old police trainee Pathomsub accidentally shot himself and his relative, Non Wanitroj, 37, while allegedly drunk and mishandling a firearm on December 29 last year.

 

Emergency responders arrived at a house in the Mae Ka sub-district upon receiving reports of the shooting. The scene was grim, as Pathomsub lay dead, while his relative was mortally wounded and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital despite medical efforts.

 

 

The incident reportedly took a fateful turn when, amidst the drinking session, Pathomsub fetched his 9mm pistol, seemingly to display to Non. In an apparent demonstration gone horribly wrong, Pathomsub pointed the gun at his own head, mistakenly believing it was devoid of bullets, and pulled the trigger. The bullet, tragically, not only ended Pathomsub's life but also continued to mortally wound his relative seated nearby.

 

Pathomsub was a burgeoning officer at Chai Prakarn Police Station, with suspicions arising that the firearm involved possibly belonged to the police. This devastating accident underscores the deadly consequences of mixing alcohol with weapons and has prompted reflections on firearm safety and responsibility within the force.

Artisi correct me if I am wrong Prayut purchased several hundred thousand Sauer 9mm pistols for the Police while he was in charge. he never got the officers to surrender their own firearms that they owned and were paid an allowance for many of these ended up in the wrong hands.My understanding is the Government now issues police with firearms no longer paying allowances for person weapons.

Yep - Check, clear; hand it to the other person in the room.  Repeat - Check, clear.  Then - assume it's still loaded.
Want to aim a gun at someone?  Use a prop gun and wooden gun.  Real guns were only pointed down-range in all the gun training I took.

Revolver grip frame with vintage style revolver grips, Browning High Power Trigger guard and trigger, crude S&W style target hammer, Beretta 92 style front of slide,, the grooves look like those on a COP pistol, rimmed bottleneck cartridges, one cartridge with gas seal style Nagant bullet seating.

Dont need to be an armourer to know that a Glock doesnt have a manual safety. You Brits used to be good with guns before your gov took them away.
